Ryland & Co marks its 25th anniversary this month. I set the accounting practice up initially to respond to requests from friends and family, and then shortly after that to cater for an influx of new small businesses being set up by Poles and other Central Europeans arriving in London following the 2004 EU accession. Over the past quarter century I have helped a variety of clients navigate the tax and company administration challenges facing their businesses. By necessity I have kept the practice to a small cohort of clients as I have run it alongside a full time career as a finance director. Therefore I have had to turn business away at times. As a result, my clients always get my personal attention. Now that I have retired from the "day job", I still intend to keep the practice small, but am now willing to take on a small number of new clients. 2026 involves new challenges. "Making Tax Digital" represents a radical change in how small businesses will need to manage their tax filing, and is due to start in April 2026. If you are unsure as to whether this affects you, or would like any other advice on your self employment or company status, then please contact me for a chat.
