Good News for Farmers & Family Business Owners

The Government has announced a positive and important change to the planned reforms of Agricultural Property Relief (APR) and Business Property Relief (BPR), effective from 6 April 2026.

💡 The proposed cap on 100% relief has been increased from £1 million to £2.5 million following consultation with the farming community and family businesses.

What this means for you:
✔️ Individuals can now benefit from up to £2.5 million of assets qualifying for 100% APR or BPR
✔️ Couples can pass on up to £5 million of qualifying assets between them, in addition to existing allowances
✔️ Trust allowances have also increased to £2.5 million, supporting long-term family planning
✔️ Greater certainty and protection for farms and owner-managed businesses

This announcement provides welcome reassurance for families planning the future of their farms or businesses, while reinforcing the importance of early and well-structured succession planning.

🚨 Widespread Online Service Disruptions Reported

It’s difficult to determine the full extent of the issue, but according to Downdetector, numerous platforms are currently experiencing outages.

Notably, HMRC websites and several accounting software providers appear to be affected. Users across the UK have reported difficulties accessing online services, filing returns, and managing digital workflows.

We’re closely monitoring the situation and will provide updates as more information becomes available.
