Not all accountants are the same. And for ecommerce sellers, the difference really matters.

Swipe through these 6 questions and think honestly about how your current accountant would answer them.

If you're nodding along thinking "they'd struggle with that", let's talk. 💬

We exist specifically for ecommerce sellers. Every one of these questions is something we handle every single day.

This is the question that stops people from making a change they know they need to make. So let's clear it up.

Switching accountants mid-year is completely normal. There's an industry standard process called Professional Clearance that makes it smooth.

Here's how it works when you come to us:

You sign up with Ecommerce Accountants.
We contact your previous accountant and request your records.
We take over, handling any upcoming deadlines in the process.
You don't have to have a single awkward conversation.

No drama. No gap in compliance. No juggling two firms.

If you've been thinking about switching, this is your sign.

Book your free discovery call with us and we'll talk you through it. 💬

Five things I wish every new ecommerce client knew before they came to us.

One. Open a dedicated business bank account from day one. Mixing personal and business finances creates a mess that takes time and money to untangle.

Two. Keep a record of every expense from the start. Not just the big ones. Subscriptions, software, packaging, postage. It all potentially reduces your tax bill.

Three. Understand the difference between revenue and profit before you scale. Chasing revenue without understanding margin is one of the fastest routes to a cash flow problem.

Four. Think about VAT before you need it. The threshold is £90,000. But the planning starts well before that.

Five. Your business structure at £50K may not be right at £200K. Building a review of your structure into your annual accountancy is something every specialist will do automatically.

None of this is complicated. But the sellers who build on these foundations from the start grow differently from the ones who don't.

Couple-run ecommerce businesses are some of the most common businesses we work with.

One person managing ops. One managing sales. Neither managing finances properly.

Nobody's fault. You're both flat out. The money feels like it's coming in. The business feels like it's growing.

But without proper bookkeeping, monthly reporting and a real financial picture, you're navigating without a map.

This is exactly why we exist.

If this sounds like your business, let's talk.

It's your net profit margin.

Not your revenue. Not your Shopify sales total. Not what's sitting in your bank account right now.

Your actual net profit margin after all fees, ad spend, stock costs, platform charges, VAT and tax.

This number tells you whether your business is genuinely healthy, or just busy.

We help ecommerce sellers build proper monthly P&L reporting so this number is always visible, always accurate, and always useful.

Not just at year end. Every single month.

This is the question we get asked most. And we love it, because it means someone's seriously thinking about working with us. 👊

Here's the honest answer: it depends on your business. Turnover, platforms, whether you need payroll, VAT returns, self assessment, or the full package all affect the price.

What we can tell you is this:

The price is not the cheapest out there, and it's not the most expensive either.
Every client gets a fixed monthly fee. No surprise bills. Ever.
What you get is a specialist who genuinely understands how your ecommerce business works.

The free discovery call exists for this exact reason. We'll understand your situation and give you a clear price. No obligation whatsoever.

We've all been there. The Xero tab open at 11pm. The spreadsheet that's somehow more confusing than when you started.

It's not a character flaw, it's just what happens when you're running a growing ecommerce business without the right support.

Here's what life looks like on the other side:

Your books are updated monthly, automatically.
Your VAT return goes in on time, without you lifting a finger.
You can see exactly how your business is performing any time you want.
And you sleep better. Genuinely.

You focus on selling. We handle the rest. 🛒

"I'll sort out a proper accountant when the business gets bigger."

This is the most expensive thing ecommerce sellers say to themselves.

I understand it completely. When you're building a business from scratch, every pound matters and specialist accountancy feels like a future problem.

But here is what I've seen happen again and again as a specialist accountant for UK ecommerce businesses.

The sellers who wait until things are big to get proper foundations in place spend the first year of their "big phase" untangling the mess from their small phase. Wrong structure. VAT arrears. Unreconciled transactions across three platforms.

I'm saying this because I wish someone had said it clearly to more of the sellers I've worked with, earlier in their journey.

If you're a UK ecommerce seller and you want a no-obligation conversation about where your setup stands, I'm always happy to chat.

Before July hits, make sure you've got these sorted:

1. Check your VAT position. If your rolling 12-month turnover is approaching £90K, you need a VAT strategy now, not when you hit the threshold.

2. Review your business structure. Still a sole trader at £200K+? The tax savings from a limited company could be significant and this conversation is free.

3. Get your bookkeeping current. Don't arrive at year end with nine months of bank statements to reconcile.

If any of these land for you and you'd like to talk through your specific situation, my diary is open for free 30-minute calls. Details in my profile.

Amazon FBA sellers — this one's for you. 📦

These are the 5 accounting mistakes we see most often when FBA sellers come to us. And they're not small errors.

➡️ Not reconciling settlement reports properly
➡️ Missing FBA storage and referral fees from P&L
➡️ Ignoring Pan-European VAT implications
➡️ Wrong inventory valuation method
➡️ Treating your seller account balance as actual profit

Number 5 especially. Your Amazon balance is not your profit. It includes uncleared fees, refunds in process, and holds. Treating it as profit leads to some very unpleasant surprises.

Save this. Share it with an FBA seller who needs it. And if any of these hit close to home, book in for a free, no obligation discovery call
