Subject: ⚠️ Major Changes to Accounts Filing from Companies House – Effective April 2027
Dear Clients,
We want to bring to your attention some important changes announced by Companies House which will affect how your company files its annual accounts from 1 April 2027.
🔧 Key Changes from 1 April 2027:
Mandatory Digital Filing via Software
Companies House will no longer accept paper or web-based filings for annual accounts.
All companies, regardless of size, will be required to file using commercial software.
New Reporting Requirements
Profit and Loss accounts will become mandatory for small and micro-entity companies, which was previously optional for some.
Upcoming Reforms
Additional changes are expected around audit exemptions and accounting reference periods, with further details to follow.
✅ If you already file your accounts using software (like through our firm), no action is required at this time.
🕒 Timeline
You have a 21-month transition window — one full accounting year plus 9 months — to prepare for the change.
🧾 Why the Change?
These reforms are part of the Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency Act 2023. The aim is to:
Improve data accuracy and integrity at Companies House
Reduce fraud and error rates
Ensure greater transparency in financial reporting
Support business confidence and access to credit
🔍 What You Should Do
If you currently file accounts yourself using paper or web-based systems, we recommend switching to digital filing well in advance of April 2027.
If you're already working with us, rest assured — we already file accounts using compliant software, and we’ll ensure your filings remain fully aligned with all new requirements.
If you have any questions or would like to review how these changes might affect your company specifically, feel free to contact us.
