🤔 Tax Myth Monday
“I only need to worry about Capital Gains Tax when I sell my house… right?”
Well… not quite! 👀
It's a misconception we hear about quite a lot!
So let's set the record straight...
CGT can apply to much more than just selling your home.
You could potentially have a Capital Gains Tax liability when you sell or dispose of things like:
🏠 A second property or buy-to-let
📈 Shares or investments
💎 Valuable personal possessions
🏢 Business assets
🎁 Assets you give away in certain circumstances
And there are some rules and reliefs that can make a big difference to how much tax you actually pay.
The tricky bit? CGT isn't always as straightforward as it first appears.
If you're thinking about selling or transferring an asset, it's worth checking the tax position before you make the move — not afterwards!
Got a CGT question? We're always happy to point you in the right direction. 😊
