Welcome to idle™
idle™ is a ride-hailing platform built around a simple principle. Drivers shouldn’t be giving away huge percentages of every job.
With idle™ there is no commission. Instead, it’s a flat £7 per day (inc Vat), once fully live.
The only deduction on each job is the card processing fee (Stripe Connect), which is 1.5% + £0.20. That’s simply the cost of taking card payments and not something we take, or that we have control over.
The reason we use Stripe is important to explain. The passenger pays the driver directly via a Stripe Connect functionality. We’ve engineered the platform this way so we physically can’t take commission, even if we wanted to.
What the passenger pays is what you get. We don’t inflate the passenger price and pass something different to the driver.
Our pricing is consistent and transparent, so for example, if in your area the rates are:
• £4.50 minimum fare (covers the first 2 miles, if that isn’t the right number, we can change it).
• £1.80 per mile thereafter (again, we can change this too)
If it’s £4.50 on a Wednesday afternoon, it’s £4.50 on a Friday night. The only exception is a small anti-social hours and Peak times increase (25%), so that same £4.50 job would be £5.63 late at night and early hours.
A fair question drivers ask is, “What do passengers get out of this”. The answer is fair pricing and consistency. Because we don’t take commission, we don’t need to inflate fares. We also don’t use dynamic pricing or surge pricing, it isn’t ethical to charge someone more when they need a lift the most.
There are plenty of examples on other platforms where a passengers pay £25 for a job and the driver sees £13 of it. With idle™, that same journey would be around £19, and the driver receives the full £19. So, the passenger pays less and the driver earns more, with the difference simply being, the commission has been removed.
That consistency builds trust with passengers, which in turn leads to more repeat business for drivers. It’s a more balanced system that is better for drivers, fairer for passengers, and more sustainable long term.
To build things properly, we’re phasing it in:
• Onboarding phase (now): completely free. Get signed up, approved, and wait for launch, and raise awareness.
• Launch phase: still free for a limited time so drivers can maximise earnings in this period. Also, drivers help raise awareness.
• Then 75% discount: £1.75 per day (inc VAT).
• Then 50% discount: £3.50 per day (inc VAT).
• Then standard: £7 per day (inc VAT).
To launch properly in any area, we need approx. 100 approved and active drivers on our system so we can handle demand from day one. Again, customer confidence is paramount.
The aim is to build something stable and fair. Not a race to the bottom, and not a system where drivers lose a percentage of every job. We want to build a system where more of the fare stays with you, and more money stays in the local economy.
