It's a WILD Takeover at July meeting of the Supporting Women in Business Southend group!

I am hosting this group at on July 28th and I am looking forward to catching up with friends old and new over a cup of coffee and a delicious slice of cake.

Last month, I asked everyone to share a rose and a thorn that they had experienced over the past month and we had some great discussions about how we could help each other. Running a business, juggling family commitments, it's all so much easier when you have a village around you for support.

Bits on the Side is a lovely venue on the end of Leigh Broadway. I recommend parking on Belton Way or one of the side turnings off of Marine Parade if you're driving. It's very close to Leigh Station (just up the hill) if you fancy a train ride.

We're meeting at 10am until 12 and if the weather is nice, you will find us in the garden admiring the sea views.

Carbon Accounting... Is it the answer or is there more to meeting your ESG Targets? And what even is ESG?

Today I am delighted to be speaking to attendees at the Essex Business Partnerships Supporting Women in Business Conference. I will be covering how to use Carbon Accounting to measure your carbon footprint and explaining what ESG is, why it's important. Delegates with leave with a draft of their Impact Statement and a clear idea of actions they can take to fill in any gaps.

It's going to be a busy week ahead with Accountex on Wednesday and Thursday, with 2 more speaker slots. I am so excited to see Wild Bookkeeping Ltd featured in the Sage Sustainability Zone too!

Any tips for keeping my energy levels up? I am definitely going to need some time to decompress by the time we reach Friday 😱

Our 9th meeting with Anglian Water - Love Every Drop and the first one run by the community under the banner of Waterwatch UK , expertly chaired by

We heard updates on the Advanced WINEP (Water Industry National Environment Programme) project which will bring nature based solutions to Southend, increasing bio diversity and creating urban regeneration too.

The original WINEP project would have had Southend beating Government targets by 5 years, but using a grey solution of concrete tanks. To stop sewage spills, we need tanks the size of 50 Olympic Swimming Pools.

The plan was to have this solution in place by 2030, 5 years ahead of Government target of 2035. However, different funding has been secured, including a partnership with Southend City Council, meaning Anglian Water are now able to proceed with an Advanced WINEP. This will take longer to complete, but will used nature based solutions, increasing bio diversity and improving the natural environment for all this enjoy.

I was interested to hear how Anglian Water receive beneficial interest rates on their loans if they implement environmentally favourable solutions.

We also heard from the local Fishing Industry representative, how marine life in our Estuary is the best it has ever been, with a large variety of species being seen, including sea horses, octopus and squid 🐙

I challenged Anglian Water on the recent extended spill in Shoebury and was assured that this CSO is now undergoing maintenance.

David Burton-Sampson reported back on the pressure he is bringing to bear on Parliament to ban wet wipes. Whilst the recently announced ban on plastic wet wipes is good news, it does not solve the problem of plastic free, "flushable", biodegradable wipes blocking sewage pipes.

Anglian Water are targeted to clarify some timelines at our next meeting and Southend City Council need to update us on clearing the huge numbers of blocked drains.

Whilst there are no quick solutions to the sewage crisis, future in Southend is looking bright.

I'm off to a roundtable meeting with HMRC on Tuesday, so a bit of light reading is required in preparation.Still, not a ...
