🚨 New Companies House Rules – Identity Checks for Directors 🚨

From 18 November 2025, Companies House will start checking the identity of people who run or own companies.

Here’s what this means for you as a business owner:

🧾 Who needs to do this?

All company directors (new and existing).

Anyone who owns or controls a company (for example, major shareholders).

LLP members (if you’re in a Limited Liability Partnership).

✅ How it works

You’ll need to prove who you are using photo ID, either:

Directly with Companies House online, or

Through an accountant, solicitor, or other approved agent.

Once verified, you’ll get a personal code that confirms your identity.

📅 Key dates

From 18 November 2025: new directors and new company owners must verify their ID straight away.

Existing directors and owners: you’ll need to do this before your next company confirmation statement is due.

⚠️ Why it matters

Without verification, you won’t be able to register new companies or file important updates.

Acting as a director without verifying could become a criminal offence.

👍 What to do now

Check if you or your fellow directors/owners will need to verify.

Get your ID documents ready (passport, driving licence, etc.).

Decide if you’ll verify directly with Companies House or ask your accountant/solicitor to do it.

✅ Tip: Don’t leave it to the last minute. Getting verified early avoids delays or problems with your company records.
