Do you know what was special about yesterday?

It wasn't just our Trial Balances and Balance Sheets that were perfectly balanced - it was that magical time of year when day and night are in perfect equilibrium too - the !

Autumn equinox is all about balance, a concept that resonates deeply with us as an / . There is so much that we can do to help our clients create a 'better' balance in their business - from a work/life balance all the way to their cashflow balance.

Just like trees create leaves to help them thrive; businesses generate income.

Just like tree's leaves fall in Autumn to create room for growth; businesses must spend money in order to help them develop and grow. What is crucial however is that this is always done with balance - trees must grow and loose leaves at the right time to help them flourish; business must ensure their cash flows with liquidity.

is akin to predicting when and where those leaves will fall. Encourage your clients to use this season as a reminder to review and refine their cash flow forecasts.

Autumn is a season of adaptation, as nature prepares for the coming winter. The changing economic landscape in autumn serves as a great metaphor for the uncertainties businesses face, highlighting the need for accurate forecasting. Businesses must adapt to changing market conditions; unforeseen situations and any under performance. Use with your clients to help them create strategies that allow their business to thrive, even in unpredictable times.

Just as the leaves changing colour and falling represent a fresh start; even if you don't offer cash flow forecasting to your clients just yet, this is an excellent time to start to offer the service (Don't forget I can help you learn, or even do it for you!)

Encourage your clients to have a fresh start too by helping them set new financial and personal goals and redefine their vision for the upcoming year.

The start of Autumn is also synonymous with harvest, where the fruits of labour are gathered and assessed. Similarly, this is an excellent time to encourage your clients to reap the insights from their financial data. plays a crucial role here. By analysing historical data, you can help your clients understand what has worked and what hasn't; and pulling through the forecasted data too you can enable clients to ensure they are on track to meet their goals and empower them to make informed decisions for the future.

So, as the leaves fall and the days grow shorter, let your advisory services be a guiding light for your clients, helping businesses navigate the colourful complexities of their financial landscape and watch as your advisory services flourish alongside the changing seasons.

Remember, just as the autumn equinox marks the transition from summer to autumn, your guidance can mark the transition from financial uncertainty to stability and growth for your clients!

When did you last ride a bike?!

I used to ride two miles every morning and every afternoon to get to the school bus stop as a teenager, but hadn't ridden a bike since my GCSEs until last weekend when I joined Natalie on her 10k run along the canal in Leeds.

Just like running a business, monitoring our throughout our run/cycle was crucial to ensure we met our targets.

Monitoring our progress closely also kept us motivated when we had those uphill battles!

By keeping an eye on our KPIs we were also able to find a way to get back on track when we slight came off track from where we needed to be.

We also created a of our route and performance before we set off so that we had visibilty of when our more difficult stretches would be (and our periods of best performance!) so that we could set specific KPIs for these different periods to ensure that our overall performance would be as we wanted it to be.

What I didn't forecast or prepare for was how hard cycling is when you haven't done it for 20 years! My bum was still too sore to sit down at ๐Ÿ˜†

If you haven't ridden a bike in a while, perhaps today - as - would be a perfect opportunity to jump on one?!

Avast, why should ye care about pirates when you're buried in receipts and journals?

โŒ X Marks the Spot:
Just like a pirate's treasure map, financial records can initially appear confusing. As a or , you must decipher this cryptic code and mark the X on the treasure chest. It is your duty to help guide your client through the maze of numbers and jargon to their rightful b***y. But don't drown 'em in a sea of numbers, keep it visual and engaging. ๐Ÿ“Š

๐Ÿ’ฐ Show 'Em the B***y:
Pirates be known for their shiny plunder (especially after a day at !), and businesses be no different - they be wanting to see the doubloons rolling in! So, when it comes to management reports, don't be hiding the loot in the fine print. Present the figures with flair, like a chest full of doubloons. Make it easy for 'em to see where the loot's coming from and where it's going. Be sure to highlight if the treasure is growing or if it's disappearing faster than a ship in a storm. ๐Ÿ“‰

๐Ÿ“ˆ Hoist the Forecast Flag:
A pirate knows the importance of of keeping their ship shipshape and so constantly monitor the weather on the horizon. Business owners be wanting to know if clear skies lie ahead or if a storm be brewing. Provide forecasts and financial projections to give 'em a glimpse of their financial future. Use these to change the course of the ship to more profitable land or at least to help 'em batten down the hatches to weather any financial squall.

๐Ÿค‘ Map to Future Riches:
Aye, a pirate may find one treasure, but savvy bookkeepers and accountants be helping business owners map a course to a lifetime of riches. Talk to 'em about personal goals, investments, retirement plans, and tax strategies that can lead to a treasure chest overflowing for years to come.

๐Ÿฆœ Ye Be Speaking the Lingo:
Just as a pirate wouldn't be caught dead speaking like a landlubber, ye mustn't speak in the arcane tongue of finance to a business owner. Help needed!!

If you have a spare few minutes today, I'd love to hear your feedback on my 'Advisory Made Simple' Blog I've started so that I can make it even better and more helpful before I officially launch it.

I have so many conversations with and who are shying away from providing their clients with crucial, valuable (and relatively easy!) 'advisory' services due to the term 'advisory' making them feel overwhelmed, scared or that they aren't qualified, experienced or knowledgable enough to provide these services.

Now I've quashed and debunked the myths around for these bookkeepers and accountants, they are now generating, on average, ยฃ45k additional revenue from the exact same client base.

I'd love for everyone who provide and services to be able to utilise advisory services to help provide greater client satisfaction, stand out from the competition and generate more and so thought the easiest way to help every and realise that they are more than experienced and skilled enough to provide this additional support to their clients is to share my words of wisdom in a blog for all to read!
