I'm looking for a couple more small businesses to work with. 👋

But rather than saying “I'm looking for referrals”, let me be very specific.

I'd love to meet:
👤 A sole trader or one-director LTD
💼 Running an established small business
📈 Getting busier
🧾 Finding that the bookkeeping is becoming another job on an already long list
⏰ Spending evenings or weekends trying to keep on top of it
🤝 Ready to hand it over to someone else

They don't need a finance department.
They don't need anything complicated.
They just need someone reliable keeping the books organised and dealing with things before they become problems.

That's exactly the kind of business I'm building PAC around.

So if you're reading this and somebody immediately came to mind...

I'd really appreciate an introduction. ❤️

Doing your own bookkeeping is free.

Except... it isn't. 👀

Let's say you spend three hours on Sunday sorting transactions.

Then another hour looking for receipts.

Your partner spends another hour helping you work out what you've done.

And something still isn't right, so eventually someone has to fix it anyway. 😅

There is a cost there.
⏰ Your time
🧠 Your headspace
💼 Time away from running the business
🏠 Sometimes even your weekend

DIY bookkeeping can absolutely make sense when you're starting out.

But eventually every business owner should ask themselves:
“Am I actually still saving money by doing this myself?”

Sometimes the answer is yes.

Sometimes... definitely not. 😂

Such a great morning! ☕ Thank you for having me as today's feature presenter. I loved sharing my story and how I help business owners get their books clean, up to date and stress-free.

Thank you all for the questions and the brilliant energy in the room 🙌

Thursday mornings like this ☕ Great people, great conversations and connections that keep growing. Loved being today's feature presenter!

January still feels a long way away... 👀

It really isn't.

And every year, Self Assessment has a funny habit of going from:
“I've got loads of time.”

to...

“HOW IS IT JANUARY ALREADY?!” 😂

If you're self-employed and haven't started getting your records together yet, don't panic.

But do start.

Even one small job:
🧾 Gather your receipts
🏦 Download statements
📂 Find your invoices
💷 Check your income records
📝 Make a list of what's missing

You don't have to do everything today.

You just need to stop leaving everything for January Paulina. 😂

She has enough to do.

There's a particular job title I keep finding in small businesses...

Partner / wife / husband / unpaid finance department. 😂

It normally starts innocently.

“Can you just help me with this invoice?”
Then:
“Can you quickly check the bank?”
Then:
“Do you know where that receipt went?”

Fast forward three years...

They're basically running the books. 😅

Small businesses often start this way and sometimes it works perfectly well.

But if your business has grown and you can afford to outsource it, paying a bookkeeper isn't always just about buying back your time.

Sometimes you're giving someone else their evenings back too. ❤️

Protect the relationship.

Outsource the receipts. 😂

I'm going to mention MTD again...

But I promise I'm not turning my page into HMRC News. 😂

There's already enough information out there about Making Tax Digital to make a small business owner want to quietly close the browser.

What I'm much more interested in is this:
👉 Is the way you currently keep your records actually ready for it?

Because if your current system is:
📄 a spreadsheet
🧾 receipts in various locations
🏦 bank statements
📱 a few photos on your phone
🧠 and a surprisingly large amount of memory...

I'd rather help you improve the system before you're forced to.

MTD isn't just about another deadline.

For many small businesses, it's a good reason to finally get the bookkeeping organised properly.

And that part doesn't have to be scary.

This is me looking very calm because nobody has handed me a shoebox full of receipts yet. 😂

I have one request for small business owners:
Please don't make January the month you finally introduce yourself to your receipts.

If your bookkeeping has been quietly waiting for...

“I'll do it when things calm down.”

I have bad news.

Things probably aren't going to calm down. 😅

Start now.
🧾 Sort the receipts
🏦 Look at your transactions
📂 Find the missing paperwork
❓ Deal with the things you don't understand

Even 30 minutes of sorting something is better than another three months of ignoring it.

And if the pile has reached the point where you don't even know where to start...

That's literally what people like me are for. 😊

“But I already have an accountant.”

Great. You probably should. 😅

But your accountant and your bookkeeper aren't necessarily doing the same job.

Think of it this way:
📚 Bookkeeping is what's happening throughout the year.
Transactions.
Reconciliations.
Receipts.
Records.
Questions.
Keeping everything organised.

📊 Your accountant may then use those records for accounts, tax and wider advice.

And when the bookkeeping is clean and current?

Everyone's life gets easier.
Yours.
Mine.
And your accountant's. 😂

I'm not here to replace accountants.

Quite the opposite.

I want to give them nice clean books to work with. 🙌
