Just before Easter we wished our long time receptionist, Linda, a happy retirement.

Linda has been part of Simpson Wood for 25 years and was the friendly face that people first saw when they came through the door. We can't help but wonder how many cups of Yorkshire tea Linda must have made for visitors over the years!

She'll be missed by all the team and clients alike but we all wish Linda lots of happiness in her very well deserved retirement.

The Ella Dawson Foundation has been our nominated charity of the year for the last two years. What this means in practical terms is that our team has taken part in a range of activities and events across the two years to help raise funds for the Foundation and raise awareness of the incredible work they do.

It's been an honour to support the Foundation over the last couple of years and, last night, we were delighted to present them with a cheque for £9891.00, which is the amount we've raised for them while they've been our nominated charity.

Congratulations to Danny McAllister, our managing director, who was recognised with a "highly commended" award in the Managing Partner of the Year category at the Yorkshire Accountancy Awards last week.

Running an accountancy and tax practice today means balancing technical standards, regulation, recruitment, succession planning and client expectations while still continuing to grow. Most of this tends to happen off stage, so recognition is appreciated.

As a firm, Simpson Wood was also shortlisted for the Private Client Award, which just goes to show the strength we provide with integrated accountancy, tax and wealth management offering, and the strong team that we have on board.

Thank you to the Yorkshire Accountancy Awards for this recognition and an enjoyable evening.

Fuel duty: increases coming 2026/27 Fuel duty will rise in stages from in September 2026 by 1p, 2p more in December 2026 and a further 2p in March 2027. Keeping an eye on your motoring costs will become more important, especially for business fleets.
