10 Steps to buy your first home:

1. Find a trusted mortgage adviser, search locally, and ask friends and family for recommendations, they
will help to assess your finances and set a budget.

2. Once the budget has been set and fact find completed, they will be able to apply for an agreement in principle, which will help you to view properties and make an offer to purchase when you are ready.

3. Find a property & make an offer, once you have found the property you want to buy, you can provide the estate agents your agreement in principle with your offer in writing.

4. The vendor comes accepts your offer to purchase the property.

5. The full mortgage application is submitted, any fees are paid, and supporting documents sent in to be reviewed by the underwriters.

6. Mortgage application has been assessed by the underwriters and approved, they then issue the mortgage offer, which is sent to you, the mortgage adviser, and your solicitors.

7. Solicitors have completed their checks and drawn up the contracts which are signed by you and the vendors, then exchanged.

8. Completion date has been set now that contracts have exchanged.

9. Move in day is here! Once the completion has been confirmed by the solicitors, the keys will be given to you and you can now start to settle into your new home!

10. Set a reminder to review your mortgage, we would normally recommend 6 months before the expiry of your mortgage preferential period, in which to review your circumstances and what would be best for your needs and circumstances going forward.

Your home may be repossessed if you do not keep up repayments on your mortgage.
