Bonds are back in the headlines, with political uncertainty driving fresh volatility in what is usually seen as a steadier part of the market. But why does this matter for investors? We answer some of the key questions.

Why bonds are back in the spotlight – and why it matters

A personal experience brought the value of key person and critical illness cover into sharp focus.

The right protection enabled faster treatment, reduced uncertainty, and eased pressure on both the individual and the business.

By removing financial and operational strain, it helped keep the business stable and growing during a challenging time.

There are two types of lasting power of attorney (LPAs) in England and Wales: health and welfare, and property and financial affairs.

An LPA must be lodged with the Office of the Public Guardian (OPG) before they are valid and can be used. This can take up to 10 weeks.

Different power of attorney arrangements may be relevant depending on where you live in the UK.

Who doesn't love a little bit of recognition… and an even nicer bottle of wine! 🍷

Thank you so much for my lovely prize this morning BNI Silk - Macclesfield. Joint winner with Michael Hertel for having 121s with everyone in the chapter. Proof that a few good conversations go a long way!

Feeling very grateful (and very well hydrated later) 😉

10 million UK savers are interested in investing, but don’t take the next step. Many feel investing is complex, unfamiliar or ‘not for people like them’.

Nearly 40% of savers are more likely to invest after a conversation about it with someone they know.

Normalising investing could prompt more people to start doing so.

Strong UK savings culture – but persistent investment gap

£9,600 Raised for East Cheshire Hospice! 😁

I would like to say a huge thank you for everybody who supported with Will month 2025.

It has taken a lot longer than expected to get in all of the pledged donations, but we could not be happier with the result.

(Well, it would have been nice to get a round £10k)

Throughout October, Moneybox Wills and Trusts waive our fees for simple Wills and participants donate these directly to the wonderful Hospice.

Throughout October last years we saw 40 clients and raised more than £9600.

The Renters’ Rights Act brings in fundamental changes for private landlords in England. No fault evictions (section 21 evictions) are banned. Rent can only be increased once a year and with two months’ written notice. Landlords can only request a maximum of one month’s rent in advance of a tenancy starting.

Landlords, and agents, must send a copy of the government’s information sheet to all named tenants by 31 May 2026 or risk a £7,000 fine.

If you have concerns, speak to your letting agent or a professional specialising in property law to ensure you don’t get hit with a fine for non-compliance.

Member Spotlight: Carole Benn
Carole Benn Wealth Management Ltd

Carole has been helping clients navigate their finances for 11 years.

Not in a jargon-heavy, confusing way. In a plain language, here's-what-it-actually-means way.

Her ideal referral right now is anyone thinking about retirement. Young or old. Whether it's decades away or just around the corner, the earlier the conversation, the better the outcome. Carole plans and manages risk along the way so that when the moment comes, market turbulence doesn't derail what you've worked towards.

She proved that in 2020. A client retired right in the middle of Covid. Markets were all over the place. It didn't matter, because the planning had already accounted for it. That client retired on schedule.

The thing people get wrong about financial advice? That it costs a fortune. Carole's heard it a hundred times and says it simply isn't true.

What people don't always realise they need is protection. Life cover, critical illness, income protection. The stuff that feels unnecessary until it very much isn't. Carole helps clients who are underprotected without knowing it.

Outside of work she's into travelling, reading, socialising, and by her own description, being happy. She also used to be a Sunday school teacher, which might explain the patience required to make pensions make sense.

If you know someone who'd benefit from financial advice delivered in plain English, bespoke to their situation, the referral line is simple:
"Would you like to speak to someone who explains finances in plain language and delivers solutions bespoke to your circumstances?"

That's it. That's all Carole needs.

Shareholders rarely want to exit their business and retire on the same timeline, with age differences and other factors playing a role in this.

Clarity on a financial freedom figure and an honest conversation on preferred timelines can help to resolve differences.

There are a range of solutions for shareholders to each get the outcome they want and need.

Individual savings accounts (ISAs) and pensions are core pillars of financial planning, given their favourable tax treatment.

Financial priorities evolve through life, making regular reviews essential.

Everyone’s circumstances are different, so solutions should reflect individual need, goals and circumstances.
