It's good to see that action is being taken against those that are unqualified and promoting unauthorised investment schemes.

It is bloody hard work to become qualified and regulated in this line of work. It takes a lot of time and effort to learn just the basics, not to mention how long you then spend advancing that knowledge, keeping it up to date, and building trusted relationships.

It is likely that there are now a bunch of people that won't trust again when it comes to investing, and will ultimately be worse-off financially for their future as a result. 😡

My message: Regardless of product or industry, please seek guidance and advice from an appropriately qualified person before taking action, especially when it involves handing over some of your hard-earned cash!

P.S I'll just be here doing what I'm good at, and ensuring that I don't promote a new mascara or face cream that I actually know nothing about 👍

Seven social media influencers, or ‘finfluencers’, have been sentenced over their roles in the promotion of an unauthorised foreign exchange trading scheme.

How to maintain your living standards in retirement 🤔

AT A GLANCE:

👉🏻 People are generally living longer, which makes it even more important to plan carefully towards your retirement – particularly if you want to maintain a high standard of living.

👉🏻 The sooner you can save for your retirement, the better. A financial expert can help you calculate how much you can afford to set aside and how much you will need in retirement to live as you want.

👉🏻 There are tax implications to consider, too. An adviser can make sure you’re saving and accessing your money in an efficient way, making the most of the available reliefs and allowances.

2 meetings, 400-mile round trip, a 13-hour day!

That’s the very short story of my day yesterday, and although I spent the best part of 9 hours on the road, it was productive!

After two great meetings, the drive allowed me time to reflect, plan, make calls, and then consume 2 podcasts to continue my own development.

MEETING 1: A potential new client, Ltd company owner, selling a home, wanting to be tax efficient. They’d worked out all of the options, but were nervous about making the decision on what to do, without some guidance. We found that whilst they had spent time considering their options, they’d not thought so much about what the money would be used for, and when… so we talked about this and discussed creating a pound-specific Financial Plan to help them understand what return on their money they would need, if any, to have the future they want!

MEETING 2: Existing clients, meeting for their annual suitability review to ensure that their investment is still suitable for their circumstances and the future they’re building. It was great catching up with them and hearing all about their first grandchild, and how this has altered their thinking around work and life!

Both very different meetings and flow of conversation, but ultimately the point for both was the same. Why are you investing? What’s it all for? When work becomes optional, how do you want to spend your time and money? How much money is enough?

When do I need to start saving for retirement?

A great question, usually I’d say “the best time to start saving for retirement was when you first got a job, the second best time is now”.
But of course, everyone’s circumstances are different, and life is much more expensive these days, but this gives you a good guide.

If you want to get more specific, and retiring without enough money is a worry for you, reach out. Your future self will thank you for it!

I won’t say I told you so, but…

‼️ SHOCK‼️
Following on from my post just 2 days ago about the Bank of England interest rate reduction… I have received my first notification regarding savings interest rates reducing in the next couple of weeks…

Over the last couple of years, savers have enjoyed interest on savings at rates that many will never have seen before, but those days are numbered!

In the very recent past savers have also been able to feel pleased that they are receiving an interest rate return that is higher than the rate of inflation! Sadly, those days are also numbered!

🤔 So when your bank begins giving you a rate of interest that falls below the target inflation rate of 2%, what do you do❓Who do you speak to❓

A key part of my job as a Financial Adviser is to help people to simplify their understanding of investing, and to begin feeling more comfortable with how it works and how they can provide their savings with the opportunity of growth over the long term!

The ultimate aim?

Increase the value of your money over time so that when the things you buy go up in value, you can buy more of them, and not less!

Bank of England base rate reduced - But what does that mean!?

The following exert lifted from the Bank of England website - www.bankofengland.co.uk

“At its meeting ending on 7 May 2025, the MPC voted by a majority of 5–4 to reduce Bank Rate by 0.25 percentage points, to 4.25%. Two members preferred to reduce Bank Rate by 0.5 percentage points, to 4%. Two members preferred to maintain Bank Rate at 4.5%.”

My view:

✅Good news for those with Tracker mortgages.

❓Hopefully, also good news for those with mortgage deals coming to an end. I’m also hopeful that those wanting to borrow money may end up with a slightly more competitive interest rate, but lending interest rates aren’t generally directly linked to the base rate.

❌ Not such good news for Savers! A reduction in the base rate will mean that savings rates offered by banks will inevitably reduce.

🤔 Another downward move on interest rates means another tip towards investing being an important part of growing your money, in real terms after considering inflation!

Of course, everyone’s situation is different, and with so many moving parts as well as busy lives to contend with, it’s even more important that people have someone trusted and knowledgable that they can talk to!

❓❓Do you know what an ISA is❓❓

This might seem like a silly question to some… but for the avoidance of doubt I just want to cover a quick point 🔎

I had a conversation today where someone told me that they had actively avoided an ISA because they are “risky”. But ultimately they didn’t understand the role of an ISA…

…So to be clear, an ISA is a type of account. In the same way you have a bank account, an ISA is also an account, but with some tax advantages.

Within that ISA account, you can choose to either place money into it in return for interest (Cash ISA💰), or you can place money into it and choose an investment fund, or funds, and the return you receive will be subject to the performance of the fund, or funds, that you have chosen (Stocks and Shares ISA📈📉).

That’s it! Both have an element of risk. But importantly the account is not the risk. The account is the way to access the tax advantage.

🤔 When thinking about opening an ISA, your choice of ISA is an important consideration (Cash or Stocks and Shares).
If that decision is something you’re not confident with, an adviser can help.

Personally I love helping to break down the barrier to entry, especially when that barrier is knowledge! Happy to speak with anyone that is unsure.. it might be a conversation that the future you thanks you for!

🫵🏻 You will likely benefit from financial advice if…

❓You know the future is important, but you don’t want to sacrifice ‘today’

❓You’re so busy with work and family, that thinking about the future is as far as you get

❓You’re not confident in making a decision on what to do, but you know that action is required

Maybe one of these 👆🏻 is you, or someone you know.
Maybe it’s not, but it is really important to know that financial advice is so much more than Pensions, ISAs, and Investments.

It’s about having someone on your team with the knowledge and expertise to do the time-consuming things on your behalf, but fully understanding what it is all for.

Thats why I focus on;

✅The human beings
✅The life they want
✅Why they want that life
✅Who they want to spend that life with

I don’t charge for my time.. so if anything above makes you think that a half-hour conversation might be worthwhile.. let me know!
