Saturday 10 am it all began..
10 members of Black Widows MCC began the preparation for the Charity Shoot two months in the making.
7 hours later we were ready.
That evening our President, Dan McLusky, our Sergeant at Arms, Sam White and Past Road Captain, Andy White set up their Land Cruisers and roof rents and spent the night at the field, ready for the Sunday morning shoot.

Breakfast was at 8am at the Custom Cafe, Caroline and her team delivered 23 breakfasts.
in break neck time.

After a thorough briefing 20 shooters spent the morning not only competing with each other but themselves and their ability to hit the targets, in this instance clays.

At 1230pm our job was done.
There were two clear winners Dan McLusky and James, partner of Jessica Kingsley,a very impressive account from both.

Our Barn Door Sniper Award went to Jane in Accounts. Nil Point.
Thanks to Steve Dixon, Charles Napper and everyone who got stuck in.

We are now seeking an experienced, high-calibre Chartered Accountant (ACA) or Chartered Certified Accountant (ACCA) to join our practice on a part-time basis.

The Role
This is a pivotal position designed for an experienced professional who thrives in private practice. You will be responsible for delivering top-tier accounting services while providing vital oversight, mentorship, and guidance to our junior team.

Key responsibilities include:

Managing and overseeing the production of self-assessment tax returns and small company accounts.
Providing high-quality, general tax advice to a diverse portfolio of private clients.
Supporting and developing junior team members, ensuring high standards of technical accuracy.
Ensuring all accounting practices align with our rigorous, FCA-regulated standards.
About You
To be successful in this role, you must be a seasoned practitioner who enjoys the dynamics of a busy private practice.

Essential Requirements:

Qualifications: Must be a Chartered Accountant (ACA) or Chartered Certified Accountant (ACCA).
Practising Certificate: You must hold a current, valid Practising Certificate.
Software: Fully conversant and highly proficient with Xero.
Experience: Extensive, demonstrable experience within a private practice environment, dealing with small company accounts and self-assessments.
Leadership: Strong communication skills with a natural ability to oversee and nurture junior staff.
Future Prospects
For the right individual, this role offers far more than standard oversight. We are looking for someone with the vision and capability to sit on the Board, actively influencing the future direction and strategic growth of the firm.

Black Widows MCC Charity Shoot.

We have a Charity Shoot on Sunday 17th May.

Meeting at The Custom Cafe at 8am for breakfast,then across the road to the field for a briefing.

Followed by a 3 hour shoot.
There will be three traps and cages.
The traps are automatic

The event is a donation only event, there is no specific fee.

We will be relying on your generosity.

We also do not want to exclude anybody who wants to shoot.

We are raising money for the Conquest Hospital, Kipling Ward, Demelza's St leonards on Sea,
The Children's Respite Trust, Chailey Heritage Foundation, the QVH, Peanut Ward and the Royal Alexandra Children's Hospital, Brighton.
We take no expenses from any donations made.We cover all our own costs.

There is an application form and certain criteria needs to be met.

You do not need to have shot before to do this with us.

We have qualified,ex military people on each cage to support each shooter.

If you have a shotgun licence you will need to bring it with you.

You will also need to bring some ID to prove who you are.

Tea and coffee are provided free as are soft drinks.

This is a fully insured event.

We also hold the necessary Section 11 exemption, from Sussex Police

There will be somewhere to sit to keep out of the rain or the sun

Today ,the Member of Parliament Nusrat Ghani (often known as Nus Ghani),along with our very own Mayor of Hailsham, came to the side path of Downford House,home of Sussex Independent Financial Advisers Ltd,Chartered Financial Planners and Accountants.
We were accompanied by Oliver Sterno and Moz a member of the Plastic Free Eastbourne team.
We today opened a water refill station along our path we own, which connects the car park at ASDA to George Street.

Nus made some poignant comments about single use plastics and the impact that plastic has on the environment, as well as promoting the network of water refill stations within the community.

Sussex Independent has another water refill station between the Congress Theatre and the Winter Gardens in Eastbourne.

We are proud Ambassadors, and have been involved with Plastic Free Eastbourne for some years now, looking after beaches five and six at Holywell, litter picking followed by a hearty breakfast as a reward.

We were delighted that Nus was able to come today with her team.

We were also delighted to meet the current Town Mayor of Hailsham,Councillor Chris Bryant.

He was elected to the position on 28th May 2025 and is serving a term that runs until May 2026.
At 27 years old when he took office, he is notable for being the youngest ever Mayor in the town's history.

In addition to his mayoral duties, he serves as the Chairman of the Town Council and represents the Magham Down Ward.

Chris is committed to the Town of Hailsham and was delighted that we were providing this resource for the people of Hailsham and it's visitors.

Nus is a Conservative politician and has represented the area since 2024, though she previously served as the MP for the predecessor seat, Wealden, since 2015. She currently holds the prestigious role of Chairman of Ways and Means, which makes her the senior Deputy Speaker in the House of Commons.

Andy White and Sam White, as well as their colleague Simon installed the water refill station, which they do throughout the area on behalf of Plastic Free Eastbourne.

AC White Plumbing and Heating Engineers, affectionately known as The 'Secret Plumbers' as their teams vans do not have logos on them, also maintain the refill stations for free as their contribution to the community.

They are also very active members of the amazing Black Widows MCC who make a massive difference to children in Hospitals, and local organizations that support children, specifically the Conquest Hospital,Kipling Ward, Demelza's, St Leonard's on Sea, The Children's Respite Trust, Chailey Heritage Foundation, QVH, Peanut Ward and not forgetting the Royal Alexandra Children's Hospital in Brighton
