The summer holidays are here and soon to be over for another year! You may have been looking forward to it, or dreading it - or maybe a bit of both!

The juggle is always tough and this year I wanted to take all of August off. It’s not quite going to happen but I have managed my work so I can get away for a couple of weeks without my laptop and have some downtime at home with my family too.

One thing I’ve noticed is that the summer holidays can get really expensive really quickly! It doesn’t have to be that way. Firstly if you make a plan, including some nothing days, you can manage your spend a bit more easily and prioritise what you’re going to spend out on.

Secondly there’s tons of deals and savings around - you just have to know where to look for them! I’ve pulled together a few that I’ve noticed so keep scrolling through this post to see them and remember to SAVE this post for later.

I’d love to hear any deals you’ve come across, things you’ve got up to - so please share the details in the comments.

The first MTD quarterly submission is now due.

This submission covers your income and expenses for April, May and June. It needs to be sent to HMRC through compliant software by 7th August 2026.

Some actions to take now:
> Get your records up to date and make sure you have recorded things against the correct categories
> Speak to your bookkeeper or accountant for support
> Ensure you have a plan for meeting 7th August submission deadline

If you’ve got any questions do pop them in the comments.

Just over a week ago I was in London for Xerocon… and I’m still thinking about one conversation. 🤖💚

It’s incredible how much AI has evolved already this year. Everywhere you looked, there were new tools designed to save time, automate processes and help us work more efficiently.

But one message really resonated with me:

AI doesn’t replace our expertise – it magnifies it.

As accountants and bookkeepers, we don’t just work with numbers.

We know our clients.
We know their businesses.
We understand their goals, their worries and what success looks like for them.

AI can help us process information faster, but it can’t replace the relationships we’ve built or the conversations that happen beyond the spreadsheets.

That, for me, is where the real value will always be.

It was also fantastic to see some of the exciting innovations coming to Xero, catch up with fellow bookkeepers and accountants, and have face-to-face conversations with some of our software partners about what’s on the horizon.

A huge thank you to , and for taking the time to chat—it was brilliant hearing what you’re all working on.

And after a day packed with learning, networking and inspiration, what better way to finish than dancing along to Sophie Ellis-Bextor at the Xerocon party? 💃 (Yes… the “Glastonbury for Accountants” definitely lived up to its name!)

I’m feeling inspired, excited and looking forward to bringing these ideas back into Artisan Accountant & Co. so we can continue finding smarter ways to support our wonderful clients—while keeping people at the heart of everything we do.

Have you embraced AI in your business yet? I’d love to know what’s made the biggest difference for you.

Have you heard of Payments on Account? If you’re wondering what they are and whether you need to pay them then take a scroll through this post.

💡 My top tip is to make sure you’re regularly putting money aside for your tax so you don’t get into any cashflow problems when the tax bill comes.

📆 And make sure you make a note of the key payment deadlines: 31st July and 31st January.

Do you have any other questions about Payments on Account? If you need any help managing your self assessment tax then get in touch to book a free discovery call.

This week I’m heading to Xerocon. I’ve attended Xerocon every year for the past few years and it’s a “must go” date in my diary for a few different reasons.

🎤 The Speakers. Xero manage to secure a great lineup of speakers who shared their stories, it’s not all strictly finance and it’s always interesting to hear different perspectives. This year I’m particularly looking forward to Louis Theroux and Jill Scott.

🧑‍💻 Tech Updates. Not only are Xero sharing their latest innovations but many of their tech partners are also there so it’s a great opportunity to see what others have on offer that could enhance my use of Xero and my offerings to my clients.

🧠 Knowledge Sharing. Through the various speakers and discussions with other attendees it’s a chance to find out the latest trends and how people are supporting their clients. MTD is sure to be a hot topic of discussion this year.

❤ Catch up with my besties. As well as the professional development opportunities and networking with new connections it’s also great to catch up with my fellow accountants & bookkeepers who are now my good friends. Having a supportive group of fellow female accountants is so important to me and opportunities to catch up in person are rare so it’s great when we can!

If you’re going to Xerocon this week pop me a message as it would be great to meet up. And if you’re not there this year, keep an eye out for 2027 and I’ll see you then!

Did you know I work with a number of CICs? One aspect of my work with them is managing and tracking their grant funding.

Grants are vital to many CICs, but if you breach a grant agreement you could put your current and any future funding at risk so it’s so important to manage it properly.

I use Xero with my clients and utilise their tracking categories so we can accurately track all spend (in and out). This means we always have up to date and reliable data, and makes reporting back to grant providers a lot easier!

Do you work in a CIC? Have you had any problems with reporting on grant funding?

One of my favourite features of Xero is it’s bank feed connection.

I know some people are nervous about connecting their bank feed to a third party, which is a totally natural feeling. Xero has a secure and encrupted connection and the key thing to understand is that it’s a one way feed. Information is imported from your bank into Xero, but nothing goes the other way. Xero has no access or ability to make payments or move any money in your accounts.

If you want to know how to set up your bank feed then keep scrolling through this post and remember to SAVE it.

Being a mum of 2 and running 2 businesses can get super busy! I’ve learnt the hard way that there’s no quick fixes or shortcuts to any of this but over my 10 years of running my business I have developed a few habits that have really helped me to maximise the hours that I do have working.

Take a scroll through this post for 5 key habits that are now part of my everyday and I don’t think I could do business without.

If you’re struggling with focus or productivity then hopefully one of my habits may inspire you. But I’d also love to hear what you do to manage the juggle? What are you top tips??

🌞 The government has just announced the Great British Summer Savings - a temporary reduced VAT rate of 5% (down from 20%) on certain family-focused supplies, running from 25 June to 1 September 2026.

If you run a restaurant, café, cinema, theatre, soft play centre, zoo, theme park or similar attraction this affects you, and you need to act before 25 June.

Swipe through this post for more details of what qualifies and what doesn’t, and what action you need to start taking now. You can also find full details on the HMRC website.

The change comes in from 25 June so make sure you’re prepared. Always speak to a qualified accountant or bookkeeper about your specific situation and to get tailored advice.

💬 Does this change affect your business? Drop me a comment below - and feel free to share this post with anyone in hospitality or leisure who needs to see it.

So MTD has begun! And it’s brought with a new set of timescales to manage. I’ve tried to summarise the MTD submissions in this single graphic so you can see when you need to submit what information. SAVE this post as a reminder.

If you need to make submissions under MTD please ensure you register this month (if you haven’t already). There are a couple of steps to the process and if you leave it till the beginning of August, you may not be able to submit on time and then you risk a fine.

If you need help managing your responsibilities under MTD then please do get in touch to chat about how I could support you.
