The most dangerous words in business?

"I'll deal with it later."

Later becomes the letter from HMRC.

Later becomes scrambling to find the cash.

Later becomes dipping into savings, delaying plans, or losing sleep over a bill you weren't prepared for.

Dividend tax has increased again, which means the cost of getting it wrong has gone up too.

You don't have to fear the tax bill.

You just need to know it's coming.

The business owners who sleep best aren't the ones paying less tax.

They're the ones who planned for it.

We're growing again.

Gabriela joins the team in July, and we're already recruiting for our next hire to start in September.

We're looking for someone working in practice who's ready for the next step. Ideally, you'll be somewhere between AAT qualified and ACCA qualified, with around 2–5 years' experience and keen to keep progressing.

What can you expect at Adaptive?

• Clear progression from preparing accounts to managing your own portfolio

• Support from Saskia and the wider team

• Team meals at places like The Ivy Asia, Miller & Carter, and Cut & Craft

• Away days that have included everything from feeding giraffes to go-karting and escape rooms

• Conferences, first-class travel, and the occasional unexpected upgrade

But the biggest thing? You'll be part of shaping the business as we grow.

We're a small team, which means ideas don't disappear into a suggestion box. If you've seen something work elsewhere or have a better way of doing things, we'll listen.

If you've been following our journey and think Adaptive could be the right place for your next move, I'd be happy to have a confidential chat.

I remember the first day I left my job.

Came downstairs. Said goodbye.

Sat at my desk and thought: “What now?”

No income. Mortgage to pay. No safety net.

You figure things out quickly in that position.

That’s why when clients come to us, it’s not just about numbers.

We understand what’s behind them. The pressure. The decisions. The uncertainty.

And that’s what good accountancy should actually support.

If you’re at that stage where things feel a bit uncertain, it might be worth having a conversation.

The frustrating part about bad accounting advice is most business owners trust it completely.

So they never question it.

They just assume:

“Well my accountant said no.”

Meanwhile they could be overpaying tax, missing reliefs, or structuring things completely the wrong way without even realising it.

And the scary part is, most people only find out years later when the money’s already gone.

Good accounting isn’t just about filing things on time.

It’s about having someone who actually explains your options, helps you understand the “why” behind decisions, and makes sure you’re not leaving money on the table.

If your accountant never explains anything to you properly, that’s probably your sign to start asking more questions.

There’s a common belief that some accountants have access to secret tax tricks that others don’t.

They don’t.

We’re all working with the same rules, allowances, and HMRC guidelines.

The real difference is how those rules are used.

Good accountants focus on planning ahead, using allowances at the right time, and structuring things properly so you’re not paying more tax than you need to.

No shortcuts.

No risky schemes.

Just doing things properly.

That’s exactly how we work at Adaptive Accountancy.

A potential client told me today their accountant said they couldn’t put their phone through the business.

That’s not true.

You absolutely can do it properly if it’s set up the right way.

And this is the problem with a lot of accounting advice.

Business owners get told “no” without anyone actually explaining the detail behind it.

The amount of money people lose simply because nobody takes the time to guide them properly is unreal.

This year, we opened up Accountex to more of the team.

The best part wasn’t the hotel, the first-class trains, or even the event itself.

It was sitting at dinner for nearly 4 hours afterwards debating bottlenecks, systems, AI, client experience, and how we build a better firm together.

That’s the culture I want at Adaptive.

Not people who just “do the job.”

People who care. People who think. People who challenge ideas and want to grow.

I think that’s why everyone came back more motivated afterwards.

If you’re an accountant reading this thinking:

“That sounds like somewhere I’d want to work.”

Property tax can get messy very quickly.

And when that happens, the last thing you want is a vague answer or someone “pretty sure” they’re right.

So we went away, looked into the detail properly, checked the legislation, reviewed the case law, and came back with a clear answer the client could feel confident in.

That’s how we like to work.

No guessing.
No half answers.
Just taking the time to get it right.

If you’ve got a property tax question you want properly looked into, feel free to message us.

The best conversations in business usually happen when people feel comfortable enough to disagree.

Not out of ego.

But because they genuinely care about finding the best answer together.

That’s usually when better ideas happen.

Do you think most workplaces encourage that kind of environment?
