That’s 2024 complete for us!

We would like to wish everyone a very happy Christmas and prosperous new year - we’ll be back on Monday 6th January.

10 years.

It feels like a real milestone that tomorrow will mark 10 years since Blackfriars Wealth Management Ltd was incorporated.

I often get asked how I came up with the name, so the picture collage here shows a few of the inspirations.

Gloucester is a city with a really rich history and one we’re proud to call home. One of my favourite places in the city is the cathedral, which is the cathedral of St Peter.

St Peter’s is where I went to school, and the crossed keys is the symbol - this is illustrated perfectly in and around the cathedral and shown in a few of the pictures.

Blackfriars is one of the historic areas of the city and the Blackfriars Priory is a real gem.

So I thought that drawing on the rich history of the city and borrowing the cross keys would be a really good starting point!

I couldn’t have imagined 10 years ago what the future might look like, but as I sit here today I’m immensely proud of how far we’ve come and grown the business to what it is today.

We’re a family business and the support of Louise Williamson has been invaluable. Without her hard work and support we wouldn’t be in the position we’re in and looking forward to the next 10 years in business.

In addition, having the support of such a strong and helpful network in Independent Financial Planning Ltd allows us to flourish and to concentrate on helping our clients achieve their financial goals.

So we’ll be raising a glass tonight and reflecting on 10 years of hard work and growth.

Base rate has been cut, to 5%, for the first time in 4 years. This is an important step as the inflation target of 2% has been achieved so this cut will give hope to homeowners and movers who will hope to benefit from lower mortgage rates.

The BoE's rate setting committee voted by a majority of five to four to reduce the rate for the first time since the start of the pandemic.

We are really pleased to have arranged a presentation for Parent and Carer Alliance C.I.C to provide information to their members on; wills & powers of attorney, employer responsibilities when bringing carers into the home, investment management and the importance of financial planning.

There will be tea, coffee & cakes provided and the ability to network and ask any questions afterwards.

The FTSE100 has closed +1.27% on the days trading after the overnight news that the Federal Reserve are predicting a 0.75% rate cut in the coming year - somewhat of a surprising forecast!

I’ve used the FTSE as a barometer and of course it will only usually be a small component part of any diversified portfolio - but - it strengthens the argument for remaining invested through volatile times and lends weight to the age old expression that ‘you can’t time the markets!’.

Starting your own business is a leap into the unknown. There is hard work, tough times, great times but ultimately a sense of pride and satisfaction.

9 years ago today Blackfriars Wealth Management Ltd was incorporated. We didn't know where it would lead us but we are here today and wouldn't change a thing.

Lots of lessons learned, improvements made and clients helped.

Here's to many more years!
