A little more time with family? A different pace of life? The freedom to explore somewhere new?
Financial goals don’t always start with a number. Sometimes they start with a picture of how you’d like life to feel.
Knowing what matters to you is a useful starting point for a financial plan.
What would be on your list?

Will mortgage rates come down?
It’s probably one of the most common mortgage questions we’re hearing at the moment.

And the truthful answer is — nobody knows for certain.
There will always be forecasts, predictions and speculation about where interest rates might go next, but making one of your biggest financial decisions purely on the hope that rates will fall can be risky.

A much more useful question is:
👉 When should I start looking at my options?
Quite often, the answer is earlier than people realise.
Depending on your lender and circumstances, it may be possible to secure a new mortgage rate several months before your existing deal comes to an end — giving you time to consider your options properly rather than leaving everything until the final few weeks.
And if things change before your new mortgage begins? That may be something your adviser can review with you too.

So rather than trying to second-guess exactly what interest rates will do next, concentrate on the things you can control: planning ahead, understanding your options and getting advice early.
If your current mortgage deal is approaching its end, speak to the team at Cornell & Company Financial Planning.

A conversation now could give you far more options later.

For homeowners and landlords, a remortgage isn't simply about finding a different rate.
It can be an opportunity to step back and ask:
🔎 Is my current mortgage still right for me?
💷 Could my borrowing be structured differently?
📈 Have my financial circumstances or plans changed?
🏠 Am I making the most of the options available to me?

With more borrowers now reviewing their arrangements, it could be a good time to understand what is available and how it fits with your longer-term plans.
You don't have to wait until your current deal ends to start the conversation.

What if your 65-year-old self could thank you at 25? Because your pension might be one of the most important investments you make.

Your pension probably feels a long way off.
But the decisions you make in your 20s and 30s can have decades to grow.
Research shows younger savers are becoming more engaged, with 31% of 18–34 year olds knowing what their pension is invested in*.

So here’s the question:
Do you know where yours is invested? Understanding your pension early could make a bigger difference than you think.
Start now. Thank yourself later.

💷 A pay rise should feel like good news. But sometimes, the picture is more complicated.
With Income Tax thresholds remaining frozen, more people are finding themselves moving into higher tax bands as their income increases.
And it isn't always as simple as looking at your new salary.
Changes in income can have wider implications for your overall financial position, which is why a pay rise can be a useful trigger to step back and review the bigger picture.
That might mean looking at your pension contributions, tax efficiency, savings and wider financial arrangements to make sure everything is still working as effectively as it can.
The goal isn't simply to earn more. It's to make the most of what you earn.
If your income has recently increased, or you're expecting a significant pay rise, it could be a good time for a financial review.

📩 Speak to Cornell & Company to see whether your current arrangements are still working as hard as they could be.

One pension change that could be easy to miss...
Salary sacrifice has become a familiar and valuable part of workplace pension planning.
But from April 2029, the National Insurance treatment of pension contributions made through salary sacrifice is due to change.

Under the planned rules, only the first £2,000 a year of salary sacrifice pension contributions will remain exempt from employee National Insurance. Contributions above that level will continue to receive Income Tax relief, but employee NI will apply.
For those currently making significant pension contributions through salary sacrifice, 2029 is worth putting on the financial planning radar now.
There is still a window between now and April 2029 in which the current NI treatment applies; the important point isn't that everyone should suddenly change their pension contributions. It's that everyone's circumstances are different, and a change to the rules is a good reason to understand whether your current strategy remains appropriate.
If you use salary sacrifice to contribute to your pension, could this change affect you?
Get in touch with the team to discuss your circumstances.
