For years it was simple, clear your debt first. In reality, while still true for high interest debt, life isn’t as simple as it perhaps once was.

What if:
Your mortgage is fixed at a low rate?
Your pension gets tax relief?
Your ISA is growing faster than interest payable…
or you just want to actually enjoy life along the way.

Suddenly, the obvious decision isn’t as obvious. Good planning isn’t about following old rules.
It’s about working out what actually moves your life forward and understanding what impact good decisions have for you.

It used to be a case of ‘mum knows best’, times have changed. It’s no longer about a product from a broker, it’s about something that fits your overall plans.

Your home may be repossessed if you don’t keep up with mortgage payments.

Good news in the office today. ‘Billy Barbados Bond’ is now offically William Bond DipPFS . Not only has he had the luxury of his ideal weather he can now put the DipPFS at the end of his name. For those not in the industry, the addition means he has sat all 6 of his exams, passed them all and now has a Diploma in Financial Services.
This shows Will’s commitment to his career, to his collegues and importantly for us also, Quayside’s current and future clients.
Congratulations Will, hard work certainly does pay off.

A great moment today where a client had clearly listened. Some choose to chase down debt, some to invest and some a balance of the two…

Anyone who tells you there is one right answer isn’t listening to you, they’re coming to you with thier own opinion. While opinions and experiences matter, nothing matters more than your own goals and having risk properly explained so an adviser can stead you towards your own objectives and so you can feel confident with your decision.

Mortgages are a big part of what we do as they play a good part in manipulating cash flow to align with goals.

A good way to get to where you want with your plans, listen and ask, ask and ask again.

Did your mortgage adviser ask what your other goals are???

If all you read about or hear from Financial Advisers is something or other about a pension, it’s no wonder you’re turned off. We get it, it’s boring.

At Quayside we know there’s way more to financial advice than products, than saving, than reducing tax bills.

For example, this year, another of our clients completed an Iron Man, one spent their tax relief on Vegas, we had to really encourage one couple to get their feet up in business class flights to Japan and we even have a couple who chose to pay over £15,000 in tax to go on a mega world cruise!

If you’re not being asked what it’s all for and instead being bored with technical, does your adviser really know what they should be doing for you…

Simply put, you can have 30 pages of numbers or a phone with a memory full of photos. We know which our clients would prefer!

Your money should be to use not to look at on a screen, you just have to find the right balance.

Last chance to book on. Share with family and friends to understand how pensions that were free of inheritance tax may not be this time next year, free to attend.

What’s it all for? Working late nights and weekends? Chasing that extra deal… Most financial advice is framed around big moments, selling a business, retiring, receiving an inheritance.

Don’t get us wrong, we do the same and those moments matter, but they are not the only times better decisions can be made.

There are dozens of points along the way where, when you really understood what you already have, you could make smarter choices, not just with your money, but with your time. Take us for example we made a decision that time with friends and family came before profit and now a 4 day week is the norm.

The right plan gives you clarity early enough to enjoy life differently, more confidence, more flexibility, fewer “I wish I’d known that sooner” moments. Things we’ve learnt from clients over the past decade not just read in a book.

Proper planning isn’t about waiting for change, it’s about recognising the opportunities already in front of you and making them work harder for the life you actually want.

APPLICATIONS NOW CLOSED

Due to a significant influx of applications, we are now closing applications, thanks to all those who applied.

We’re looking to bring someone new into the Quayside team.

This is an entry‑level / support role, but more than that, it’s an opportunity to grow with us. Because of how we work, we’re genuinely happy to shape the role around the right person, their strengths, interests, and how they like to work.

If you’re organised, curious, personable, and like the idea of being part of a friendly, ambitious financial planning team, we’d love to hear from you.

This could suit someone starting out, changing direction, or looking for a long‑term career where people actually enjoy coming to work.

Pop an email to [email protected] with a cv and maybe just a few points, why, what you’re looking for (a stable job/career progression) and part or full time. There are no right answers… well some, you have to like office dogs and you’d benefit from being happy to be around people, were office based.

And yes this lot below would be your work collegues!

The second work trip is already showing signs of delivering even more for our clients than the first.

We celebrated the past 12 months, grew as a team but most importantly completed a series of team workshops looking at how we work.

Not because things are broken or clients are unhappy but because, being “good” isn’t the same as being great and great is what we strive for.

Three session and the team challenged how we communicate internally, how we capture knowledge, how we use data, how we structure roles, and how clearly everyone understands why we do what we do and not just the task in front of them.

That matters because it directly affects the experience clients have. Fewer handovers. Less repetition. Calmer, more joined‑up conversations. Advice that’s clearer, more personal and more consistent, no matter who in the team you’re dealing with.

A lot of firms only stop to do this when something’s gone wrong. We’ve been doing it constantly for 10 years even when things are going great. This makes sure standards don’t slip as the business and team in it grows.

I couldn’t be more proud or impressed that we have a team that is still this curious, structured, open to challenge each other and be self‑critical when things are already working. We’re not perfect which is why we’ve done what we have but I’m sure as this starts to show again this year, as a client or professional connection we work with, you’ll be impressed too, if you think we were already working well.. watch this space.
