As an entrepreneur, there’s always someone asking for your time.

And in my line of work, I support other business owners so when they asked for my help my first reaction was usually YES. And when prospects came along I don’t think I properly vetted them, I took on every opportunity.

It wasn’t long before I found myself in exactly the same position as my clients - overwhelmed and spread too thin. I had no choice but to learn the power of saying NO.

Saying NO doesn’t mean turning people away; it’s about protecting your time, energy, and focus.

When you say NO to what doesn't align with your goals, you say YES to what truly matters.

Most business owners know how overwhelming it can feel when the admin piles up, the bookkeeping falls behind, and staying organised seems like an impossible task. I’ve learned the hard way just how much stress financial mistakes can cause in a business and it’s not just the cost, but the time and worry that really take their toll. Over the years, I’ve found a few habits that make all the difference:

1️⃣ Reconcile regularly: Sitting down once a week to match up transactions with your bank statement might not sound exciting, but it’s a lifesaver.
2️⃣ Keep an eye on invoices: It’s so easy to miss payments or overlook an overcharge, but a quick check can save you headaches later.
3️⃣ Track your cash flow: Those little irregularities can be a clue that something’s not quite right - spotting them early is key.
4️⃣ Use the right tools: Honestly, software like Xero has been a game-changer for me and for many of my clients - it makes catching mistakes so much easier.
