This morning, our Galashiels office at McHardy Private Wealth hosted its first client event at Brew in St Boswells — and we’re delighted to say it was a great success.
We were pleased to welcome Peter Duncan, Founding Director of Message Matters, who delivered a highly engaging presentation on the current political landscape following the recent election. His insight and experience within communications, government relations and public affairs sparked some excellent discussion amongst clients and guests.
We were also joined by Marshall Docherty and Elliot Dixon from Quilter Cheviot, alongside our directors/financial planners Stuart Johnson and Richard Fletcher, giving clients the opportunity to connect with the wider team supporting their financial planning and investment journey.
A huge thank you to Brew in St Boswells for hosting us and for the fantastic coffee, cakes and hospitality throughout the morning. With the lovely weather we’ve been enjoying, it was especially nice to see clients able to sit outside, relax and enjoy the atmosphere after the presentation.
Most importantly, it was wonderful to bring clients together in such a relaxed setting, catch up face-to-face and hear such positive feedback from everyone who attended.
We’re already looking forward to hosting more events like this in the future.

Unsettled by what's happening in the markets? You're not alone.

The most important thing in uncertain times is usually to stay the course - and to talk things through with someone who understands your situation.

We're always happy to chat.

New tax year, new page. 🗓️

Our latest blog looks at what good financial planning actually looks like at the start of April - and why the most experienced planners treat this moment as an opportunity, not just an admin task.

Worth a read if you've been meaning to review things.

As of April 6th, 2026, Making Tax Digital for Income Tax came into force – and if you're self-employed or earn income from property above £50,000 gross, it applies to you.

Instead of a single annual tax return, you'll submit quarterly digital updates to HMRC, with thresholds dropping further in 2027 and 2028.

For most people, the compliance piece is straightforward with the right software. The more interesting question is what quarterly reporting means for how you plan; when tax becomes a year-round conversation, so does everything connected to it: how you take income, how you invest, what you hold and when.

Many people delay speaking to a financial planner because they feel they need to have everything “figured out” first.

In reality, the most valuable conversations often happen when things are uncertain – when you’re approaching retirement, selling a business, or simply wondering if you’re on the right track.

Good advice brings clarity. It helps you understand your options, avoid costly mistakes, and move forward with confidence.

If you’ve been meaning to review your finances, now is a good time to start the conversation.
