What does a ā€œcomfortable retirementā€ actually mean?

It doesnā€™t mean yachts, supercars, or unlimited luxury.

According to the Pensions and Lifetime Savings Association (PLSA), a comfortable retirement is about everyday freedom and peace of mind.

It means:

ā€¢ Replacing the car when you need to
ā€¢ Enjoying holidays in the UK and abroad
ā€¢ Eating out regularly
ā€¢ Running a home comfortably
ā€¢ Having money left over for hobbies, family, and life

For 2025, the PLSA estimates:

ā€¢ Ā£44,000 per year for a single person
ā€¢ Ā£60,600 per year for a couple

Compare that to the State Pension, which is roughly Ā£12,000 per person.

For a couple, thatā€™s about Ā£24,000 per year.

The difference has to come from your own pensions and savings.

This isnā€™t about fear.
Itā€™s about clarity.

Because ā€œcomfortableā€ isnā€™t a feeling.
Itā€™s the ability to make choices without financial stress.

I worked out why AIs struggle to find how many Oā€™s are in portfolio.

They make lots of assumptions, based on what is more likely. Apparently, it is more likely that I'd ask how many O sounds there are rather than letters.

If you specify and ask how many letter 0ā€™s they all answer it correctly.

Wrong question a leads to the wrong outcome. I'm pretty sure 99% of people using AI to help them with their finances are not going to be asking the right questions or giving the right prompts.

But if it canā€™t spell portfolio,
it shouldnā€™t be making investment decisions for you.
