What does a ācomfortable retirementā actually mean?
It doesnāt mean yachts, supercars, or unlimited luxury.
According to the Pensions and Lifetime Savings Association (PLSA), a comfortable retirement is about everyday freedom and peace of mind.
It means:
⢠Replacing the car when you need to
⢠Enjoying holidays in the UK and abroad
⢠Eating out regularly
⢠Running a home comfortably
⢠Having money left over for hobbies, family, and life
For 2025, the PLSA estimates:
⢠£44,000 per year for a single person
⢠£60,600 per year for a couple
Compare that to the State Pension, which is roughly £12,000 per person.
For a couple, thatās about Ā£24,000 per year.
The difference has to come from your own pensions and savings.
This isnāt about fear.
Itās about clarity.
Because ācomfortableā isnāt a feeling.
Itās the ability to make choices without financial stress.
