⚽ From the Office to the Pitch!

Last Wednesday evening, Team Griffin were delighted to take part in a fantastic 5-a-side charity football tournament organised by RBC Brewin Dolphin.

The event brought together local accountants, law firms and professional services businesses for an evening of friendly competition, networking and fundraising, all in support of two incredible local charities: Devon Air Ambulance and Exeter City Community Trust.

We were pleased to be part of £1,500 that was raised on the night, helping to support the vital work these fantastic organisations undertake.

As for Team Griffin...we're proud to say we battled our way through the competition and made it all the way to the final! ⚽🥈

While we narrowly missed out on lifting the trophy, it was a fantastic evening, full of teamwork, great conversations and plenty of community spirit.

A huge thank you to Brewin Dolphin and Rhi Macaulay for organising such a brilliant event.

After all, the real winners were the charities and communities that will benefit from the funds raised.

On Tuesday Team Griffin attended Digital Devon, hosted by Devon Chamber of Commerce, and came away feeling positively challenged, refreshed and inspired!💡

One of the key themes throughout the day was that AI should be seen as a partner - helping businesses work more efficiently, create capacity and support better outcomes, whilst still retaining the human expertise, judgement and relationships that matter most.

The keynote speakers and panel discussions provided practical insights into how businesses can embrace technology, adapt to change and continue evolving rather than standing still.

It was also great to catch up with so many familiar faces from across the local business community, including teams from Chalk & Ward, Cosmic UK, Fresh Air Studios, Optimising IT | B Corp™& One Voice Media

A special mention too to Gemma Boss and Helen Wylde-Archibald, who were featured on BBC Spotlight covering the event! 🎬 It was fantastic to see both the event and the important conversation around AI and business innovation receiving wider recognition.

We're looking forward to exploring some of the ideas shared and turning inspiration into action!

🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️ We're proud to recognise two fantastic achievements from Team Griffin.

On 24 May, Caitlin Vine and Oliver Bright took on the challenge of the Great West Run, successfully completing the 13.1-mile course through Exeter with determination, resilience and plenty of hard work.

A big shout-out to Caitlin for raising money for FORCE Cancer Charity helping to support local people and families affected by cancer across Devon. 💙

At Griffin, we know that success comes in many forms. Whether it's supporting our clients, developing professionally, giving back to the community or achieving personal goals, we're always proud to celebrate the accomplishments of our team.

This week in our “Griffin To Know You” series, we’re introducing somebody who plays an incredibly important role behind the scenes at Griffin - Holly, Executive Assistant to Misty Nickells and Head of the Admin Team.

Holly may not seek the limelight, but her impact across Griffin is huge.

From supporting Misty and protecting valuable time and priorities, to overseeing office operations, suppliers, administration and the day-to-day running of the business, Holly helps keep everything moving smoothly behind the scenes.

No two days are ever the same...

When asked what skills matter most in an Executive Assistant role, Holly highlighted,

One of the most powerful parts of Holly’s interview was hearing how much confidence she has gained during her time at Griffin.

🚨 NEWS FLASH FOR UK DRIVERS & BUSINESSES 🚨

Big news announced by Chancellor Rachel Reeves this week…

The HMRC approved mileage allowance is increasing from 45p to 55p per mile for the first 10,000 business miles driven each tax year - backdated to April 2026. This is the first increase since 2011.

For many employees and business owners using their own cars for work, this will come as very welcome news after years of rising fuel, insurance and vehicle running costs.

✅ 55p per mile for the first 10,000 business miles
✅ 25p per mile thereafter (unchanged)
✅ Backdated to April 2026
✅ First increase in 15 years

Importantly, this applies to business travel - not normal commuting to and from your regular workplace.

At Griffin, we know many businesses and employees have felt the squeeze from increasing motoring costs over recent years, so this is a significant and positive update from HMRC and the Treasury.

Today certainly did not go to plan for many people across Exeter and Devon!

With major travel disruption affecting journeys into the city, Team Griffin did what great teams do best… adapted💪

So, for one day only, Misty’s home in Alphington became our temporary Griffin HQ for those who couldn’t make it into the office! ☕💻

Despite the unexpected change of plans, the team pulled together brilliantly, supported one another and kept everything moving for our clients.

Sometimes business is not about perfect conditions - it is about flexibility, teamwork and having a positive “make it happen” mindset when challenges arise.
