This week in our “Griffin To Know You” series, we’re introducing somebody who plays an incredibly important role behind the scenes at Griffin - Holly, Executive Assistant to Misty Nickells and Head of the Admin Team.

Holly may not seek the limelight, but her impact across Griffin is huge.

From supporting Misty and protecting valuable time and priorities, to overseeing office operations, suppliers, administration and the day-to-day running of the business, Holly helps keep everything moving smoothly behind the scenes.

No two days are ever the same...

💬 “I could be dealing with a small issue one minute, to a time-sensitive and confidential matter the next.”

When asked what skills matter most in an Executive Assistant role, Holly highlighted,

✔️ Kindness, empathy and support

One of the most powerful parts of Holly’s interview was hearing how much confidence she has gained during her time at Griffin.

As Griffin continues to grow, Holly is particularly excited about developing her own admin team and becoming an even stronger line manager - helping others grow in the same way she has been empowered to.

🚨 NEWS FLASH FOR UK DRIVERS & BUSINESSES 🚨

Big news announced by Chancellor Rachel Reeves this week…

The HMRC approved mileage allowance is increasing from 45p to 55p per mile for the first 10,000 business miles driven each tax year - backdated to April 2026. This is the first increase since 2011.

For many employees and business owners using their own cars for work, this will come as very welcome news after years of rising fuel, insurance and vehicle running costs.

✅ 55p per mile for the first 10,000 business miles
✅ 25p per mile thereafter (unchanged)
✅ Backdated to April 2026
✅ First increase in 15 years

Importantly, this applies to business travel - not normal commuting to and from your regular workplace.

At Griffin, we know many businesses and employees have felt the squeeze from increasing motoring costs over recent years, so this is a significant and positive update from HMRC and the Treasury.

Today certainly did not go to plan for many people across Exeter and Devon!

With major travel disruption affecting journeys into the city, Team Griffin did what great teams do best… adapted💪

So, for one day only, Misty’s home in Alphington became our temporary Griffin HQ for those who couldn’t make it into the office! ☕💻

Despite the unexpected change of plans, the team pulled together brilliantly, supported one another and kept everything moving for our clients.

Sometimes business is not about perfect conditions - it is about flexibility, teamwork and having a positive “make it happen” mindset when challenges arise.

This is a huge milestone for our team - and one we are incredibly proud of!

More than anything, this reflects something we have believed in for a long time:

A great business should balance profit with purpose - and measure success by more than just the numbers.

B Corp certification independently recognises businesses that meet high standards of social and environmental performance, transparency and accountability across five key areas:

But perhaps the most meaningful part?

We haven’t had to fundamentally change who we are to achieve this.

🌍 What attracted you to Griffin?
“I’ve been in accountancy for 10 years, starting my career in Kerala, Southern India, before moving to the UK in 2021. I joined Griffin in 2022 and was immediately drawn to the culture - I felt welcomed, accepted and treated as an equal from day one.”

📊 What do you enjoy most about your role?
“I love the variety and the challenge. The work pushes me and helps me learn more deeply.”
 
💡 What motivates you when learning something new?
“I really enjoy problem solving and finding solutions - that’s what drives me.”
 
🤝 What do you enjoy most about working with the team?
“Everyone is supportive. There’s never any hesitation to help - that’s just part of the culture here.”

📈 What does your role involve day-to-day?
"Working across a range of clients - from accounts preparation and bookkeeping to charity accounts and personal tax.”

💻 What skill are you most proud of developing?
“I’ve really enjoyed developing my Excel skills and learning new software - I like understanding how different systems work.”

💬 How would you describe the Griffin culture?
“Friendly, motivating… and like a family.”

🏏 What do you enjoy outside of work?
“I love playing cricket - I’m a right-arm fast bowler and play for Stokeinteignhead. I also enjoy cooking authentic Indian food - especially mango curry, which my region is famous for!”

Last week, we had the pleasure of attending an exclusive Exeter Chiefs training event - bringing together sponsors and Gold Card holders for a brilliant mix of insight, access and connection 🤝

We had the opportunity to watch the first team in action, including a great capture 📸of Manny (Immanuel Feyi-Waboso) at full intensity 💥🔥

Our highlights were a funny, honest and engaging Q&A with players, Kane James & Richard Capstick 🎤 - giving a real behind-the-scenes feel of life in elite sport, both on and off the pitch.

We also heard from Tony Rowe and Director of Rugby, Rob Baxter, who shared valuable insight into game preparation, mindset and performance 🧠📈 - answering questions with real openness and depth.

Alongside the action, it was great to connect with fellow professionals, including Jamie Knode from Atkins 🤝 - strengthening relationships that go far beyond the day-to-day.
