🏔️ Climbing Mt Kilimanjaro x Financial Planning: 💰
A few weeks ago, we managed to summit Mount Kilimanjaro—amazingly, an experience that taught me about financial planning - I know 🤢... but bare with me here!
This isn’t a “look at me post”; instead, it’s about how slow, steady progress and the right support system can help you reach the top—whether that’s a mountain or financial planning.
1️⃣ The Size of the Goal Dictates the Support You Need
If you’re climbing Arthur’s Seat or a Munro, you don’t need much—trainers, some water, and off you go. But Kilimanjaro? Everest? That’s a bit of a different story. You need an experienced team: guides who know the routes, the weather, the altitude adjustments, what food, which gear, help to carry everything - the porters are superhuman 🤯. Their expertise and costs are worth their weight in gold!
Financial planning is no different!
If you’re just starting out—earning your first salary or within the basic tax bracket—you don’t need an adviser or any help. Good old Google or ChatGPT will always tell you: spend less than you earn, keep an emergency fund, and invest the rest, depending on your goals.
But as your wealth grows and life gets more complex—higher earnings, investments, tax planning, business ownership—you need a team who knows the financial landscape inside out. Just like climbing a mountain, the stakes get higher, and the expertise becomes invaluable.
2️⃣ Slow and Steady Wins the Day – “Pole Pole”
In Swahili, “Pole Pole” means slowly, slowly, and that’s exactly how you climb Kilimanjaro. You walk at a snail’s pace for 7–10 hours a day, barely feeling like you’re making progress. Then, on Day 4—your “rest day”—you reach camp, look up, and suddenly the summit is right there! Just two days later, you’re standing on the roof of Africa.
Investing works the same way...
You invest month after month, year after year, and it feels like nothing is happening... what’s the point?
Then, a few incredibly good days (yes, days) trading amongst a few years can change everything, and 10/15+ years later, you’re styling😎
