Over the past few days we have had a lot of clients querying emails/letters from HMRC. Sadly this seems to be scamming season. HMRC have advice on how to spot a scammer at the following link. If you are unsure it may be worth a visit:

If you're reading this and recognize the image below then its probably because you have, at some stage, had your service dismissed as something a trained chimp can do.
The reality of course is something entirely different. For example, I wouldn't fix my car because, let's be honest I know sod all about fixing cars therefore I trust it to a professional to do it, even if I have to pay through the nose for it, the reality is if I don't then I have to bike it everywhere, whether that be to work or carrying a bag of footballs to some godforsaken field in the middle of nowhere, the net result is that I'd rather lose a few quid than travelling everywhere in Lycra where my nether regions will feel like one of those executive stress toys that most of you have on your desks.
Anyway I digress, my point being is that when you pay for a service you pay for the expertise of the person doing that , the years of training and experience they have to provide you with the best possible outcome.
Whether you're an accountant, a mechanic, a dog walker or a builder you should never be afraid to charge a fair price for a skilled service.

This may seem like such an obvious thing to say but the amount of times we have people who do not do this is insane. It helps us help you keep accurate records, it reduces the amount of time spent having to "guess" or chase transactions meaning it costs less per hour for the clients. More importantly, in the event of any investigation from the taxman , it helps prove or justify expenses.
