You are unlikely to be able to prevent fete however, similar to many of my clients you can choose to eliminate the financial stress caused at a time when all you need to concentrate on is recovering. Please make sure you have put Critical illness cover in place to porotect you and your family should the worse happen, and review regularly. When your mortgage product is due to expire your lender will write to you, quite often 6 months ahead to offer you a new deal. This can sometimes be the best option but your lender can’t tell you what every other lender is offering... but if you have a Whole of Market Broker they most certainly can!

If you get any direct correspondence from your lender always run it by your broker, your broker acts for you whereas the lender acts for the lender!
It may well be that we recommend that you stay with your current lender but we can arrange this for you and it means that we have up-to-date details of your current mortgage product when you come back to us and are looking to move house.

A year into the pandemic a number of Protection providers are publishing their COVID claim statistics which is a timely reminder that none of us know what is around the corner for our health.

How many of us could easily pay our mortgage/rent and bills let alone have any quality of life if you stop being paid as you’re off sick. Statutory sick pay is currently £95.85 a week, and very few employers pay full salary beyond a month of sick leave. Even the civil service and NHS stop paying you after a year.

Cover is available for most people and flexible to your circumstances and budget.... let’s all hope we never have to deal with another pandemic but sadly it has shown that we need to protect ourselves and our families from the financial hardship that sickness causes.

Finally there is a myth that protection providers avoid paying claims. This is simply not true, 95% of life and illness claims are paid. The only reason that they would not pay is if you haven’t been truthful on your application, and even then if it’s been a genuine misunderstanding of what information was required they will still pay out with an adjustment. A flat out rejection of a claim would be due to and applicant deliberately lying on an application.
