The real power isn’t investing. It’s time.

Investing often gets discussed in terms of returns or markets.

But this year’s data within the Financial Health Report, reinforces something more fundamental and that is that time matters more than timing.

Average household wealth rises to £269,690 for those investing for more than five years.

When combined with ongoing advice, that figure increases to £374,985.

Compared to non-investors, the differences are significant:

* 71% of long-term investors say their wealth has increased over 10 years (vs 25% of non-investors)
* 87% feel financially resilient (vs 52%)

The message is consistent across the data that it’s not just investing that makes the difference, it’s staying invested long enough for behaviour to compound.

All figures stated are within the Financial Health Report 2026

On behalf of SJP, Opinium surveyed 6,000 UK adults between 17 March and 9 April 2026. Quotas and post-weighting were applied to the sample to make the dataset representative of the UK adult population

Advice isn’t just about guidance. It changes outcomes.

Across every measure in this year’s research, shared in the Financial Health Report 2026, one pattern repeats.

Those who receive financial advice consistently report stronger financial outcomes.

* £193,960 average wealth with advice (last 10 years)
* £67,334 without advice
* £298,079 with ongoing advice

And the gap isn’t only financial.

41% of those with ongoing advice say their situation improved in the past year, compared to 13% without.

They are also more likely to feel financially comfortable, resilient, and in control.

What stands out is that advice doesn’t just respond to financial complexity.

It appears to help people navigate it more effectively over time.

Saving comes naturally to many people in the UK. But investing? Less so.

Despite strong saving habits, millions don’t take the next step into investing. Confidence, familiarity and understanding all play a part.

The article below looks at why this gap exists and how initiatives like the Invest for the Future campaign aim to encourage more people to consider investing for the long term.

The value of your investment can go down as well as up. You could get back less than you invested.

Planning hasn’t changed in five years. Outcomes have.

One of the most striking findings from this year’s research (The Financial Health Report 2026) is not what has changed, but what hasn’t.

Only 38% of UK adults have a financial plan in place.

That figure has not moved in five years.

Yet the difference it makes is consistent and measurable.

* £157,416 average wealth with a plan
* £70,610 without a plan

* A gap of over £86,000

People with a plan are also significantly more likely to feel financially comfortable (51% vs 29%) and resilient (76% vs 52%).

This isn’t about complexity. It’s about structure.

And the data suggests that even in uncertain conditions, structure remains one of the most reliable drivers of financial wellbeing.

It’s always a great moment when I receive feedback from my clients and can see I’ve made a difference.

This one really made me happy as to hear it felt easy to understand and not overwhelming means I’ve achieved what I always want to - that financial planning is so positive and not something to be afraid of. It’s really not!

The most important number in the recent Financial Health Report 2026 report isn’t inflation

Everyone expects rising costs to dominate financial conversations in 2026.

But this is the important number for me, that only 38% of people in the UK have a financial plan in place and this has been unchanged for five years! That’s not progress…

We’ve had

* rising inflation
* market volatility
* cost of living pressure
* geopolitical uncertainty

Five years of disruption, yet planning engagement hasn’t moved.

What’s interesting is that the data consistently shows those who plan report stronger outcomes across:

* wealth
* resilience
* confidence
* financial comfort

Wow!

Opening my email at the end of last week to find out I’ve been nominated for the Professional Adviser Women in Financial Advice Awards 2026 in the Financial Adviser of the Year - North West category was a fabulous end to the week.

Honestly, just being nominated feels really special. There’s a long way to go and I’m not expecting anything more as there’s so many great women in financial advice around, but receiving an email like that means such a lot.

I never came into this industry for awards or recognition, I simply wanted to help people and build a business I could be proud of. So moments like this feel very surreal and very humbling.

A huge thank you again to everyone who has supported me, trusted me, recommended me and backed me along the way. It really does mean more than you know.❤️

Bare minimum… or simply how it should feel to have a financial planner?

Knowing exactly what would happen if you couldn’t work for six months

A clear, joined-up plan that looks at your finances as a whole

A pension you genuinely understand and not just something you “have somewhere”

An emergency fund that gives you real security, not crossed fingers

Regular reviews, with the flexibility to talk when you need to

Advice explained in plain English, without jargon

A cashflow plan that brings your future, especially retirement, to life

Confidence in your decisions, backed by a clear plan

This isn’t “above and beyond.” It’s what good financial planning should look like.

And yet, so many people I meet are missing at least one of these.

Once you’ve experienced it properly, it’s hard to imagine doing things any other way.

Frozen income tax thresholds are dragging people into higher bands, a trend compounded by years of high inflation.

In this environment, tax efficiency matters more than ever. Making full use of available allowances and structuring assets thoughtfully can make a meaningful difference over time.

As wr are now in the 2026/27 tax year, we need to look at practical tax planning opportunities for people at different life stages, from those starting their careers to those in retirement.

I’m still a little in shock writing this…

I’ve been nominated for an Inspirational Woman award at the Enterprise Vision Awards 2026 💗

This wasn’t something I applied for, so to be recognised in this way, by someone who took the time to put me forward, means a lot!

The last few years have been a journey of rebuilding, finding purpose, and creating something meaningful through both my business and the work I do beyond it. To be seen as “inspirational” is incredibly humbling.

Whatever happens next, I’m already so grateful. Thank you to whoever nominated me, you know who you are 💛
