Hospitality businesses: don't miss this important summer VAT update! šŸ½ļø

From 25th June to 1st September 2026, a reduced 5% VAT rate will apply to certain children’s meals, replacing the standard 20% VAT rate for qualifying supplies.

The temporary reduction is designed to help lower the cost of family meals and activities during the school summer holidays, creating a valuable opportunity for businesses to attract families, promote dining offers, launch summer meal deals, and increase footfall.

"Why is a latte £4?!" - It's a question coffee shops hear all the time.

While £4 might seem like a lot for a coffee, the reality is that a large portion goes towards VAT, wages, ingredients, card fees and the day-to-day costs of keeping the doors open.

And they’re not getting any cheaper.
After everything is paid, the actual profit on a £4 latte is often around 53p.*

So the next time you grab a coffee from an independent hospitality business, you're supporting far more than what's in the cup.

VAT’s the problem!

We’re supporting the campaign, spearheaded by and backed by UKHospitality, calling for VAT for hospitality to be cut to 10%.

Hospitality businesses are the heartbeat of our towns, villages and communities, but right now, many are being squeezed from every angle.

Rising costs, staffing pressures, business rates, National Insurance, energy bills and VAT all add up.

For independent pubs, cafƩs, restaurants, hotels and food businesses, the pressure is real.

A lower VAT rate would give hospitality businesses more breathing space, helping them to invest in their teams, improve their venues, keep prices fair for customers and continue playing such an important role in local communities.

We work with independent hospitality businesses every day, and we see how hard they work, how much they care, and how much they contribute.

Hospitality doesn’t need more pressure.
It needs backing.

Support the campaign, sign the petition, the link is in our bio šŸ‘†šŸ¼and help give independent hospitality businesses the fairer footing they deserve.
