Profitable on paper, tight in the bank. Sound familiar? 👀

It's one of the questions we get asked most, and it's usually the same story. The work is coming in and the invoices are going out, but the money arrives later than the bills do.

Late payment is rarely about a client not having the money. More often it's friction. The invoice went out a week after the job finished, the terms were vague, and nobody followed up until it was well overdue.

Sean answers this one properly, both sides of it. Getting paid faster, and keeping enough visibility on cash that a slow month doesn't catch you out.

Business owners don't work nine to five.

Questions come up at 9pm on a Sunday, usually the night before something is due. Xingang mentioned getting answers late in the evening, and honestly that's just how running a business works.

We'd rather answer then than have you worry about it all weekend.

Tax planning isn't about avoiding tax. It's about not being surprised by it.

Most people meet their tax bill after the fact. The year is finished, the numbers are what they are, and all that's left is to work out what's owed and find the money.

Planning moves that conversation earlier. Knowing roughly what's coming, when it's due, and how much to set aside. Understanding how a decision this quarter changes the bill next year. Taking the timing of something into account before you commit rather than after.

Same rules, same figures. The difference is whether you saw it coming.

If your tax bill feels like a yearly surprise, it really shouldn’t do 👀

Those regular financial reviews can help you understand what you’re likely to owe, when payments are due and how much you should be setting aside

The aim isn’t to magically make your tax disappear, (though we wish we could!) it’s to make sure you’re prepared for it rather than panicking when the bill arrives through the letterbox.

We work with businesses to make their finances easier to understand and help them plan ahead. No nasty surprises. Just better planning.

VAT registration? Limited company or sole trader? 🤯

These decisions have real consequences, and most of the guidance out there is written for accountants rather than for business owners.

Sam needed clear answers for a client and got them in plain English. Breaking complex rules into something you can actually act on is the whole point.

The most expensive tax mistakes aren't clever schemes gone wrong. They're ordinary habits.

Poor record keeping. Receipts that fade, expenses nobody logged, a year reconstructed from memory in January. You end up claiming what you can prove rather than what you were entitled to.

Leaving everything to the last minute. The deadline was never the problem. Doing it all in one panicked week is, because that's when things get missed.

Not factoring in what's coming. Buying a vehicle, taking on staff, selling a property, changing structure. All far easier to plan for than to unpick afterwards.

None of these are difficult to fix. They just need sorting before they cost you something.

When did you last look at your accounts? 🗓️

If the answer is "when my accountant sent them over", they're doing half the job they could be.

Accounts filed nine months after your year end tell you what happened. Accounts you actually use during the year tell you what to do next: whether to hire, whether to invest, whether to hold off.

Same numbers. Completely different value.

How often do you review your figures? Tell us below.

Every accountant says they're proactive. Fair question: what does that actually mean? 🤔

For us it means you hear from us before decisions, not nine months after them. It means someone picks up when you ring. It means your accounts are something you use during the year, not a document that arrives long after the year it describes.

It also means saying things plainly. If you don't understand your own numbers, we haven't finished the job.

None of that is complicated. It's just noticeably rarer than it should be.
