Private landlords in North Devon are being urged to prepare for a new government registration scheme. Introduced as part of wider reforms to the private rented sector, the scheme will require rental properties to be registered.

👉 What landlords must register

The government has announced that its new ‘Register your rental property’ service will be introduced during the next phase of the Renters’ Rights Act. Landlords of assured and regulated tenancies will need to register themselves and each rental property. The annual registration fee will be £65 per property.

👉 Registration timetable

The service will be introduced region by region across England. In the South West, registration will be mandatory from 15 August 2027, with landlords required to register by 14 November 2027. Those who wish to register earlier may do so from December 2026, when the service opens nationally.

👉 Purpose of the register

The register will help landlords demonstrate that they meet their legal obligations and give councils additional tools to identify and address poor practice in the private rented sector. In future, tenants will also be able to access information through the service to make more informed decisions about where to rent.

👉 What landlords will need

To register, landlords will need a GOV.UK One Login and details about each property, including occupancy, rent levels and any required safety documentation. This may include gas safety records, electrical safety certificates and valid energy performance certificates.

Further information about the service and registration requirements is available on the North Devon Council website.

I am having an operation to remove my gallbladder on Thursday 22 October. I will be off work for a few days and don't know yet when I will be back to work fully. I am hoping to be working some hours next week. Emails and calls will be replied to when possible, and I would ask clients for their patience at this time. Jacqui will be here on Thursday and Friday this week if anyone needs to drop anything off.

Hoping to attend this next year, provisionally booked a hotel and tickets for the FAB Show.
