An announcement was made on May 21st, 2026, that the government is finally going to increase the mileage rates for cars and vans from 45p/mile to 55p/mile for the first 10,000 miles per tax year. This change is being backdated to April 6th, 2026.

Last week, the Chancellor made some announcements that will affect some businesses and families when it comes to the summer holidays. She announced a reduced VAT rate of 5% on Children's Meals, Children's tickets for cinemas, theatres, concerts, shows, exhibitions and soft plays, as well as on Family Attractions. It is being called the "Great British Summer Savings" scheme, and takes effect from June 25th, 2026 up to and including September 1st, 2026.

IR35 is a rule which became law in 2000. It is also known as the off-payroll working rules. IR35 was put in place to stop workers (mostly contractors) from being able to work for a company as an individual when they are really an employee. If someone falls under IR35, they are taxed at the same rates as if they were an employee.
