It sounds like a dramatic question, but it is one worth asking 👀

In the UK, almost anyone can call themselves a tax adviser. HMRC has now introduced a free checker and new registration requirements are rolling out for paid advisers who interact with HMRC on behalf of clients.

But here’s the important bit 👇🏼
Being registered with HMRC is the minimum. It does not automatically mean someone is qualified, insured, experienced, or bound by a professional code of conduct.

Before appointing anyone to deal with your tax, payroll, VAT, accounts or claims, ask:
~ Are you registered with HMRC?
~ Which professional bodies are you a member of?
~ Do you hold professional indemnity insurance?
~ Are you bound by PCRT?

If the answer is vague, that tells you quite a lot 🤔

Run a mile.

Without properly knowing you, your business, your income and your numbers, nobody can promise that. And if it sounds too good to be true… it usually is.
