Anyone can call themselves an accountant. You need to make sure they have got the skills needed to advise you properly. Make sure they are qualified, check them on their regulatory bodies register, ask for insurance details, have they got a practicing certificate. They should have their own agent access to HMRC, they shouldn't need your personal or business ones.

MTD for ITSA

Everywhere I look there seem to be lots of issues and lots of questions.

The Basics.

Applies to Sole Traders and Landlords.

2026 - Income exceeds £50000 (in the 24-25 Tax Year) only income from sole Trade and Rental counts towards it.

If you need to do MTD for ITSA you need software, either finance software or bridging software.

If you have Rental Income and Sole Trade Income you need to do 2 seperate returns each quarter.

You need to Sign Up on HMRC website and then link your software to HMRC.
