💡Fun Fact Friday

Here's a banking quirk many people don't know:

Did you know that in the UK, it’s not just the Bank of England that prints pound sterling banknotes?

Six other banks are legally allowed to issue their own sterling notes in Scotland and Northern Ireland, including the publicly listed Danish bank, Danske Bank.

It all dates back to the Bank Charter Act of 1844, which centralised note issuance in England and Wales, while leaving Scotland and Northern Ireland’s long-established banking systems untouched.

Try spending a Danske Bank tenner in a London corner shop! 🤷‍♂️ 💷

As advisers to doctors and dentists, one of the most common misconceptions we hear is:

“I’ve had health issues, so I probably can’t get protection anymore.”

In reality, underwriting has evolved significantly. A pre-existing condition may affect timing, cost, or policy terms, but it doesn’t always prevent access to protection cover altogether.

Many clients are surprised to learn that cover can still be available following:
☑️ Cancer
☑️ Cardiac events
☑️ Mental health conditions
☑️ Musculoskeletal injuries

The key is understanding when to revisit the conversation and working with advisers who understand both the medical profession and the underwriting process.

Because while your risk profile may have changed, your need for protection often becomes even greater. Learn more here 👉 https://www.legalandmedical.co.uk/pre-existing-health-condition-protection-is-still-possible/

💡 Fun Fact Friday

Here's one that surprises almost everyone:

The NHS pension scheme is so large that, if it were a standalone organisation, it would be one of the UK's largest financial institutions - managing well over £400 billion in promised future benefits.

That means the scheme is bigger (in liabilities) than many high‑street banks and even larger than the GDP of several countries.

It’s a financial giant quietly sitting behind the scenes of the health service. 👀
