𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐝𝐨 𝐭𝐨𝐝𝐝𝐥𝐞𝐫𝐬, 𝐭𝐰𝐢𝐧𝐬, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐀𝐝𝐯𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐝 𝐃𝐢𝐩𝐥𝐨𝐦𝐚 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐨𝐧?

They all tried to kill me off! But here I am: 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐅𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐫.

It wasn’t easy. Between sleepless nights (thanks, kids) and trying to decode financial jargon that made War and Peace look like light reading, there were moments I wondered if I’d ever get through it. But I did. Apparently, I don’t know how to quit.

Why does this matter to you? Chartered status is the gold standard in financial planning. It means I’ve got the expertise and determination to help my clients cut through the noise and get their financial plans working for them. Retirement, investments, tax planning—you name it, we’ll sort it.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I’ve got a real challenge to get stuck into: finding the time to update all my email signatures and social media bio’s. Wish me luck. 😉

𝐍𝐨, 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐛𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐢𝐬 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧...

Let’s look at the numbers:
only 1.4% of UK businesses are actively for sale at any given time, and of those, only 20-30% successfully sell. The rest? One of three things happens:

1️⃣ You die while owning it.
2️⃣ You give it away.
3️⃣ It fails or closes.

Over the past decade, I’ve worked with countless business owners, many of whom built flourishing businesses that provided incredible lifestyles for them and their families.

However, the ones who’ve had the most successful retirements weren’t the ones banking on selling their businesses to fund it, they were the ones with the foresight to create a plan, extracting wealth during the good years and investing it for later life.

I have also witnessed business owners who gambled on their business providing for them throughout later life, reach retirement with little more than a state pension.

The harsh truth is that unless your business can’t run without you in it, its value is likely far less than you imagine.

My hope for all business owners and entrepreneurs is that your hard work culminates in a life changing sale event.

Unfortunately the statistics say it probably won't.

The truth might be tough to hear, but it’s never too late to shift your strategy. Even if your retirement feels a long way off, or you think you’ve left it too late, there are always steps you can take to secure your financial future.

Meet the team:

Simon took his first financial planning exam in 1993 and has been involved within the broad range of financial services ever since. He joined EB Associates Group in 2012 and is a Chartered Financial Planner, a Fellow of the Personal Finance Society and a Pension Transfer Specialist.

Simon is the current Professional Qualifications Officer for the regional committee of the Personal Finance Society and has been a committee member for the last 3 years.

“I believe in striving for ever higher professional and technical standards, allowing us to deliver the highest quality advice for our clients, giving them the best possible outcome.

Simon is married with a daughter and two grandchildren, two dogs and plays regular competitive team tennis and helps coach the tennis club juniors.

Alefa Joined the Financial Services world after completing a Bachelors Degree in Economics and Accounting, and a Masters Degree in Accounting and Financial Analysis, and has kept up his enthusiasm for academia by working towards Chartered Financial Planner status, as well as pursuing a Law qualification. Alefa has been a Level 6 Qualified Pension Transfer Specialist since 2016 focusing on defined and safeguarded benefit advice. Alefa also specializes in Estate Planning and Trusts.
