Last night Gemma-Louise Walshaw attended the Cumbria Chamber of Commerce Annual Dinner 2025. BookSmart Accounting and Brown & Co were very kindly hosted by 32West. We had a lovely evening and it was great to meet so many new people and catch up with lots of familiar faces too. Thank you so much James Higgins and Jonathan Lee, we had a fabulous evening 😁

We are thrilled to announce that we have been acquired by Brown & Co Accountants! 🥳 🍾

Brown & Co is a modern, digital firm of chartered accounts with offices in Thornton-Cleveleys and Kendal, and was established in 2012 by Chris Brown who was formerly with 'big four' firm KPMG.

The deal has secured the jobs of our four team members and will enable Lydia, who founded the firm in 2019 and who is also a lecturer at Kendal College, to exit the business to focus on her work in education.

Lydia Read-Potter, Managing Director of BookSmart, said: “BookSmart Accounting has grown rapidly but I believe it now needs to be part of a bigger firm that can take it to the next level. Brown & Co were the obvious choice as they share the same ethos, prioritise client experience and are at the cutting edge of technology.”

Chris Brown said: “Lydia has built a modern, tech-savvy accountancy practice with a knowledgeable and enthusiastic team. We are pleased to welcome them on board. We believe that the current market, in which many established accountancy firms are being swallowed up by big consolidators, offers real opportunities for strong independents like Brown & Co, which have the expertise but can also offer a pro-active, personal service.”

Last night two of our team were recognised for their brilliance at the Lancaster & Morecambe College apprenticeship awards!

Lauren received a “highly commended” in the Outstanding Achievement category.

Emily won the Skills Development Academy Award for her learning in extra areas outside of AAT.

Congratulations to them both on their continued hard work ⭐️
