The Taxpayer’s Ode

As the calendar turns to the year's new phase,
It’s time to sort through financial maze.
Receipts and forms in a steady stream,
Numbers dance in an accountant's dream.

The W-2s and 1099s in hand,
Each line of data, carefully planned.
Deductions claimed, credits pursued,
A meticulous act of fiscal gratitude.

From income earned to expenses tallied,
Through spreadsheets vast and columns rallied,
Every cent and every dime,
Recorded now, it’s filing time.

Fear not the form, though complex it may seem,
The tax code’s logic isn’t just a dream.
For once it’s filed, and the deadline met,
A weight is lifted, no need to fret.

So sharpen your pencil, open the app,
Conquer the forms, avoid the tax trap.
April will come, but you’ll be prepared,
The joy of filing, a burden shared.

Have you received a letter like this?

HMRC is ramping up The Let Property Campaign. We've noticed a large increase in potential/accidental landlords receiving these letters.

The aim is for HMRC to 'nudge' anyone they think is potentially a landlord to make a disclosure.

HMRC are writing out to people they have identified as 'landlords' as they think you MIGHT have tax to pay. You may do, or you may not. We will guide you through the process and deal with the disclosure for you. We'll take away the stress and ensure you are treated fairly by HMRC and only pay what is due by utilising all tax allowances, reliefs and expenses. We'll not just save you the headache, but hopefully money too.

HMRC's main interest is basically to get landlords on the tax system and pay any tax due.

Even if you haven't received one of these letters and you think you might have letting income to declare, it's better to disclose this via a tax specialist to avoid being hit with bigger penalties if you get picked up by HMRC. So don't wait worrying. Contact BPT Accountancy Services Ltd today on 01274 085155 or [email protected] for a free discreet and confidential

Figures show 600,000 missed the January tax filing deadline

📣Did you know that if you don’t pay your taxes on time, HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) can charge you interest on your late payment?

‼️HMRC can use its powers to charge interest on late payments of tax and pay interest on overpayments you’ve made to them.

🔹What happens if I can’t pay on time?

There may be times where you owe tax and simply can’t pay on time. As long as you agree a formal ‘time to pay’ arrangement with HMRC then the interest rate they charge is relatively low.

🔹How can we help you manage these payments?

If we’re already calculating your taxes, we’ll advise you of the amount that’s due and the payment deadline, as a matter of course.

If we’re not already acting on your behalf, we can still help. You might be unsure of the deadlines for the taxes, or need help working out what you’ll need to pay. We’ll help you run projections to check if you have the funding to make these payments. And we can liaise with HMRC to put ‘time to pay’ arrangements in place.

When it comes to tax, it’s always best to talk to us sooner rather than later.
