Business Owners:

You're all working pretty hard right now as the year approaches its end, and we prepare for the opportunities ahead in 2024. For me, in my business, this is definitely true.

If you're a bit like me, you're always looking to ensure that you are retaining as much of your hard-earned profits as possible - after all, these pay for the life that you want to have today and for the life of your dreams in the future. With some of the highest tax rates in the UK for many years, I've decided to share some information on how a business owner like you can look to minimise your tax bill.

Things are off to a positive start for markets this year; let's see how things pan out for us all.

In my experience, nothing's really changed:

1. Work out what you want your life to be like.
2. Look at your current income, spending and budget.
3. Get sound financial advice to create and maintain a financial plan that can withstand all life's twists and turns.
4. Accept that there's much you can't control, and that's life!
5. Life goes on whatever.

The psychology of investing:

Tip #1 : Understand loss aversion.

We want to keep what we have. It is a fact of human psychology that we feel a loss much more than a gain. This is known as ‘loss aversion’ by both psychologists and economists. A market downturn can mean investors flee from risk, switching to low-risk investments, or cashing out entirely. This may reduce volatility and losses, but it may mean missing out on opportunities. Riding out a downturn – including this one – may be a better tactic than trying to time the market.

Setting your financial goals doesn't happen by accident.

I recommend starting with looking at your bucket list or creating one for your life if you've not got one. This is because your financial goals could lack meaning or motivation without understanding what you truly want in your life.

I enjoy working with people who want to explore and create their best life, that's more meaningful than just cold numbers and assessing wealth.

If you need some guidance, I'm happy to help: [email protected]

Procrastination...

As human beings, we can have a tendency to put things off and I think this is certainly true when it comes to addressing our financial plans. There are so many reasons for this;

> It can sometimes be daunting
> It may not fill you with excitement
> There may be no instant reward
> Often the investment of time and effort is to benefit You in the future but the Now involves more immediate gratification

Have you ever felt any of the above?

Maybe you love your work, but as the years go by, you may find that you love it rather less than you did when you started?

Other things in life, family, travel, hobbies – and enjoying spending money rather than having to spend every waking hour making it start to increase in appeal.

I actually believe that life is for living, ultimately.

Where are your thoughts at?

There is no point spending years building up a fortune if you don’t retire until you are too old to enjoy it. We look at how to retire young.
