Candidates compete across six different categories:
◘ Legal ◘
This award recognises individuals from solicitors to barristers, legal executives to patent attorneys and in-house lawyers that have made an exceptional contribution to the profession.
◘ Property & Construction ◘
Including surveyors, architects, project managers and developers, property consultants, letting and sales agents, and those
involved in commercial, global and domestic property sales, this award recognises young professionals that have excelled in this sector.
◘ Finance ◘
An award for those that have made a remarkable contribution to the financial services industry, this includes those who provide financial services or advice on finance including accountants, insolvency practitioners, financial planners, stockbrokers, insurance brokers and investment professionals.
◘ HR, Recruitment & Training ◘
Entrants are welcome from human resources, recruitment, talent management, people development, training and consultancy whether in a private business, agency or an in-house department. This award is to recognise those that exceed expectations within their role and the industry.
◘ Marketing & Communications ◘
Recognising young professionals that positively and effectively enhance a brand or organisation, this award is open to anyone working in a marketing role, either in-house, agency or private business. This includes anyone who works in advertising, journalism, PR, events, creative and communications planning/consultancy.
◘ Technology ◘
A brand new category for BYPY, entrants will need to demonstrate how they are technically and commercially the best young professional within the region. Open to individuals who plan, design, develop, implement or manage a technology based function in-house department, agency or private business. This includes people in product/service development, R&D, digital communication, web planning/design/development, mobile development, network architecture and management. The overall winner is chosen from the winners of these six categories, and takes home the prestigious title of Birmingham Young Professional of the Year 2014. (Categories including, but not limited to, the roles and remits listed.) In addition, the winners of the following two awards will also be announced:
◘ Aspiring Talent ◘
Aspiring Talent recognises exceptional individuals aged between 16 and 24 who are currently in full-time Higher/Further Education or training and looking to embark upon a professional services career within Birmingham.
◘ Inspiring Leader ◘
The Inspiring Leader award is designed to recognise exemplary figures within the professional community whose effect can be measured by their impact upon others; be it employees, colleagues or clients. Someone who has inspired and mentored the region’s young professionals over the years, who leads change and takes people with them, and who demonstrates a strong commitment to the success of Birmingham Future and the city of Birmingham generally.
