Don't look at our bank balance right now - it's awful!!!

I actually don't get any negative emotions from an 'awful' bank balance.

I actually get filled with ideas on what we can do to make it 'prettier' 😍

If you have an 'awful' bank balance the first thing to do is get into the habit of being curious about it:

🍰 what happened?

🍰 what can we do to change it?

🍰 how do we never ever get to this position again?

So, if you only do one thing for your business this week - start a five minute weekly check-in with your cash!

Friday is a perfect day for it - stops you thinking about it all weekend.

Did you know that we get more tired from things on our mind than the things we actually do?

It's a new challenge every month being a member of Basingstoke Business for Good 😍

Part of the deal is to be more sustainable and amazing Kaia Vincent from Brevity Marketing comes up with some great sustainability challenges for us all.

January - is finding what we have in the cupboards and using it up, instead of buying new!

Last weekend my husband said we should have some art on our walls ( I am not a fan of this idea!) But look what I found in one of the cupboards 🤣🤣🤣

Now, you probably think it's the art of our three kids???

No - it's all mine 🤣 At some point in the last 20 years I decided that these invaluable art peaces are worth bringing to UK. That's just over 1 300 miles... They must have been important to me 😋

What do I do with them now?

And if you want a real tip on cupboard sustainability - once a week make a meal from what's in the fridge and cupboards. Not allowed to buy anything!

New year - same me! Because I never was a problem 😍

Reflecting on 2025 I realised that I tried to fit in too much.

Even if I am an accountant who hates tax returns and loves the sea most in the winter - I did not escape the 'you must do this and that to be successful'...

It didn't work! Instead it drained my energy, time and even my bank account.

So my intentions for 2026 are:

🍰 stop worrying about what I should be doing to be a successful business owner!

🍰 drink a glass of water every morning! I know it's simple, but just the thing I need 😂

🍰 I will also write each Monday. It's not going to be perfect - but I will do it!

Being yourself in today's world is the bravest thing one can do!

Money is one of these things that follows us around everywhere!

If you look at a structure of business you will see that it trickles through every single thing of it. Marketing, team, ingredients, rubbish, packaging, sick leave, holidays...

And yet it's somehow one of the hardest things to manage.

I don't want to get into politics and tax here, because we all have the same rules, and for the most small businesses the tax tips don't really make a huge difference.

Instead I want to invite you to think where in your business is the biggest friction with money?

And when you find that one BIG thing, you need to review it, understand what is causing the friction and ... open a new bank account.

It might seem like nonsense, but... the main problem with money is that it has no purpose, so we spend it!

By opening a new bank account, let's say for VAT, and transfering the necessary amount weekly, you give purpose to the money and it's not there to be spent on Black Friday deals...

Does it fix the problem overnight?

NO!

But if you do nothing, you don't stand a chance at all! It takes time, discipline, hard work and sometimes even tears. But it does work eventually!

I don't know why, but the message:

- Elizabeta, they really need to talk to you! Can I give them your number?

- Absolutely, happy to have a chat 😊

To never get the call... is more common than I want it to be.

I even reach back to the person and ask for the permission to reach out myself - I call, I message, I email, and no response...

Why? I can only guess:

🍰 it's hard to admit your numbers are in the mess.

🍰 it's hard to admit that you are not a number person (you just don't get it!).

🍰 it's hard to face the tax amount due, when your bank account is empty.

One very brave sole last week messaged me and said - it's too hard to talk. I can't face it. Just leave it!

I didn't, I quickly messaged back - give me one more chance. Let's talk - I promise we can work through it!

And we did. There actually was an error in numbers and the tax bill is not that bad. It's not pretty, but it's not that bad.

It's not easy to ask for help, but I can make it easier for you to become a numbers person 😍 I can help you set processes to make managing your finances easy 😍 and together we can make sure you never again need to feel overwhelm by it all 😍

There is no judgement, no blaming or 'you should have known'!

It's all about - how can we work together to make it easier going forward.

As we step into December, I am not even thinking about New Year's resolutions. But instead reflecting on the year nearly gone 😍

It has been a fantastic year both personally and in business.

But there are a few things I learned and want to share:

🍰 As we all embrace AI and new technologies it is becoming harder and harder to trust people.
I hope it's just me, but more often than before what is being sold is not what you actually get.

And even if I say to all my clients that they are the people who deep down know best what their business needs, this year I have slipped and signed up for something I didn't really need. Just to find out that what I bought wasn't even the thing I paid for...

🍰 I also noticed that we are rushing and running more than ever before. Again, with all the technology promising to make it easy - our lives are nothing but easy.

And even if I have been talking about my 🐌 life for a while, this year I slipped and was 'doing' far too much instead of being and living.

🍰 And the idea to start a newsletter... just never came to life 🤣🤣🤣 I doubted myself, I asked for help, I started it and - nothing happened!

All in all it was a year of learning and I think, I am just about ready to start that newsletter 😍

I might have signed up for a challenge - 12 cold dips in December...

If you are lucky enough for me to be doing your tax return in the next two weeks - Caro will be approving them 🤣

And if you have a meeting booked - you might even meet her in person or on the screen 😍

She is beautiful and her goal for the next two weeks is - get used to a noisy household and four legged friends.

Most of us (if not every single one) started business with one goal - more freedom.

This is one of mine - free to volunteer and be part of something amazing - helping people with sight loss get independence, confidence and freedom.

My freedom creates freedom for others!!! It's a privilege to be part of Guide Dogs 🦮

Sometimes when you stand in the middle of it, it all looks the same!

Quite often I stand at my back door and think - how do I make this garden work?

🍁Why is it so brown in the autumn?

🍃Green in summer and empty in winter?

🕑Always late in spring?

But if I step back and take a closer look, I always find lots of amazing things.

All the pictures were taken last week - apples, raspberries, pears and flowers! Even if it's just green/brown when I stand at my back door...

It's exactly the same with your business - when you are in the middle of it every day, you do feel tired and nothing seems to work...
But if you take time to step back and reflect - you will see how far you actually have come 🎉

Today is Friday, so I invite you to stop, breathe and reflect - how far have you come?

And then over weekend - do celebrate!

You are doing so well, it's worth celebrating 🥳

We talk a lot about saving for the tax bill, reducing expenses and cashflow...

We talk about owners pay and holidays. We even talk about planning for retirement...

But when was the last time you planned for the unplanned 🤔

Life happens - we get ill, other people around us get ill and we might need to be there for them... while business just keeps going through it's own rolacoster...

🍰 Do you have emergency pot?

🍰 Do you know who will step up and help?

🍰 Do you know what will need doing and what will be ok to wait?

This is a huge question and I don't expect you to have all the answers. But maybe something worth thinking about next time you have a day working on your business 😍

And if you never had a day working on your business - take this as a reminder - you need to take time away from daily routine to work on your business.

P.S. and if you are wondering what happened to me to be thinking about this - nothing! My loved ones are all ok 😊 But I am helping a few people who are dealing with life and business at the same time, so I thought it was worth mentioning that planning for unplanned is the most valuable thing we can do...
