Studio rent, treatment room hire, coworking memberships and workshop spaces can often be claimed as business expenses for wellness businesses.
The key is whether the cost is wholly and exclusively for your business activities.
Keeping good records now makes tax season much less stressful later ✨

Not every training course is treated the same for tax purposes ✨

In the wellness industry, many courses and certifications may be deductible — especially when they help you improve or maintain skills you already use in your business.

But courses for a completely new career path may not qualify in the same way.

Whether you’re a counsellor, yoga teacher, spa owner, beautician or wellness coach, understanding what counts as a business expense can help you make more informed decisions for your business 🌿

Save this for later if you’re planning your next course or certification 🤍

If you’re self-employed, HMRC may ask you to pay more than one year’s tax at once — and many people don’t understand why?

This is because of something called Payment on Account.

📌 What is Payment on Account?

Payment on Account is HMRC’s way of collecting tax in advance for the next tax year.

If your tax bill is over £1,000 (after deductions), you’ll usually have to make two extra payments:

✔️ 1st Payment on Account

Due 31 January
50% of next year’s estimated tax.

✔️ 2nd Payment on Account

Due 31 July
Another 50%.

Together these two payments make up 100% of next year’s tax, based on what you owed this year.

📌 Good news — not everyone has to pay it

You don’t have to make Payments on Account if:

Your tax bill is under ÂŁ1,000, or

80% or more of your tax is collected through PAYE (for example, you have employment income too).
