“I became a befriending volunteer because I enjoy helping people and making a positive difference in someone’s life. Many people feel lonely or isolated — simply having someone to talk to can improve their wellbeing and confidence. Being a volunteer allows me to offer support, friendship, and kindness to those who may need it most.” - S , a befriending volunteer

This Volunteers’ Week, we’re celebrating the incredible people who give their time to support others through The Farming Life Centre. Thank you for the compassion, friendship and difference you make every day.

And if you’ve ever thought about volunteering, there’s always room for more.

Farm Resilience Programme-
The first Farm Resilience workshop of the season took place on May 6th at The Cowshed Café, bringing together a strong group of local farmers from across the Peak District. The session created a positive atmosphere, with good engagement, open discussion, and a clear appetite for understanding the current challenges facing farm businesses.

The focus of the evening was on market trends and the factors influencing price fluctuations across key agricultural sectors.

Farmers explored:
How global and national market forces shape farmgate prices, The impact of supply and demand cycles, Seasonal and long term price patterns and how to interpret market signals to support better business decisions

The discussion helped participants build confidence in understanding why prices move as they do, and how this knowledge can support planning, budgeting, and resilience.
It was a productive and encouraging start to the programme. The session set a positive tone for the upcoming workshops, with farmers expressing interest in continuing to build their understanding of business resilience and market awareness.

A big thank you to all who attended, please stay tuned for the next workshop date announcement.
