Scottie Scheffler has won over $20,000,000 over the last 18 months and probably had total earnings of double this with sponsorship deals etc.
He drives a car that has 190,000 miles on the clock and continues to live in the same house - "I'm not a big car guy and we like the house we have". He is a religious man, and married his childhood sweetheart. His dream was to play on the PGA tour and it explains his demeanor when playing. Despite the scores, wins or losses, he is living out his dream daily.
For me, he is someone to admire as he proves that money does not change people; it amplifies who you are already are. He knows his values and beliefs and what matters to him. It is not material stuff for him despite having an open cheque book.
What can be learnt from Scottie, apart from his golf game? I encourage new clients to examine their beliefs about money, as well as being clear on their top five values. I've seen more success when financial coaching and life planning clients have these parts of the their planning figured out. It should be at the start and heart of all matters financial and otherwise.
