SWEF has announced continued funding support for young entrepreneurs in Norfolk through its Business Grants programme, offering financial assistance to help early-stage businesses start, grow and develop.

The scheme is aimed at individuals aged 18–30 who are based in Norfolk and have the ambition to build a business but are facing financial or other barriers.

Making Tax Digital is a government initiative designed to improve accuracy and encourage more timely digital record-keeping. It now applies to both VAT and Income Tax.

Under Making Tax Digital for Income Tax (MTD for IT), self-employed individuals and landlords are required to keep digital records of their income and expenses and submit quarterly updates to HMRC using compatible software.

Breckland Council has announced a new £100,000 funding initiative aimed at supporting projects that enhance towns across the district and respond to local community needs.

The scheme, known as Pride in Breckland, was approved as part of the Council’s February budget and will see funding distributed to five town councils: Dereham, Swaffham, Watton, Thetford and Attleborough. Each council will allocate its share to projects that benefit their local area.

A new VAT relief will take effect from 1 April 2026, allowing goods donated to a registered charity – subject to certain conditions – to be given without charging or accounting for VAT. This change should make charitable giving and its VAT implications easier to manage, while also encouraging the donation of surplus stock and helping to reduce waste.

This is a welcome relief that removes the long criticised “deemed supply” rules for qualifying donations.
