Salary sacrifice: are you making the most of it?

Salary sacrifice can be one of the most tax-efficient ways to boost your pension savings, helping to reduce both Income Tax and National Insurance while increasing the amount going into your retirement fund.

For higher earners, it can also help manage:
✔ Higher-rate tax thresholds
✔ The High Income Child Benefit Charge
✔ The reduction of your Personal Allowance above £100,000

However, changes announced in the Budget mean the National Insurance advantages of salary sacrifice will be restricted from April 2029.

That might sound a long way off, but it creates an opportunity to review your pension strategy now and ensure you're making the most of the current rules while they remain available.

Salary sacrifice isn't right for everyone, but as part of a wider financial plan it can be a powerful tool for building long-term wealth.

Economic Update: A Mixed Picture 📈

Inflation fell to 2.8% in April, lower than expected, providing some welcome relief for households. However, ongoing tensions in the Middle East continue to create uncertainty, with economists warning inflation could rise again later this year.

There were some positive signs for the UK economy:
✔ GDP grew by 0.6% in the first quarter
✔ Markets performed strongly in May
✔ A major new trade deal with Gulf nations is expected to boost UK businesses

At the same time:
➡️ Unemployment has edged higher
➡️ Job vacancies continue to fall
➡️ Public borrowing remains under pressure

As always, economic conditions can change quickly. Having a clear financial plan can help you stay focused on your long-term goals, whatever the headlines are saying.

You've got the mortgage... but have you protected it? 🏡

Buying a home is one of the biggest financial commitments you'll ever make. Yet research shows that more than one in three mortgage holders have no life insurance, income protection or critical illness cover in place.

Ask yourself:
❓ If you couldn't work tomorrow, how long could you keep up with your mortgage payments?
❓ Would your savings be enough?
❓ Would your family be financially secure?

Many people focus on getting the mortgage approved, but forget to put a safety net in place afterwards.

Our latest blog explores why protecting your income and your mortgage could be just as important as securing the mortgage itself.
