Today’s coaching day with and has been about reflection over the past year and thinking about the year ahead. I won’t lie it was challenging and emotional but it’s good to look back sometimes to see how far you’ve come and the lessons learnt. ♥️

Making Tax Digital is coming, and a lot of businesses still aren’t prepared.

Here are the 3 key things you need to know ⬇️
1️⃣ Paper records are being phased out — digital record keeping is now essential.
2️⃣ You’ll need HMRC-compatible software, not just a spreadsheet.
3️⃣ Quarterly updates will replace the old yearly rush.

MTD isn’t about paying more tax — it’s about keeping on top of things throughout the year and avoiding the last-minute stress.

If you’re unsure what software to use or how this will affect your business, drop me a message — I can help you get set up before the deadline.

Spent the morning mapping out the future with Kerrie from

It’s always important to practice what you preach and if you haven’t got a plan in place with where you want your business to go, how do you know what steps to put in place to help it grow.

Looking forward to the next few weeks with this fab little group.

📢 Big Changes Coming to Company Accounts Filing! 📅

From 1 April 2027, all UK companies – including dormant ones – must file their accounts using commercial software. 🖥️✉️
Paper and web-based filings will no longer be accepted for accounts.

This move supports a safer, more efficient, and fully digital system at Companies House 🔐✅

What’s changing?
📌 Micro-entities must file a balance sheet and profit & loss account
📌 Small companies must file a balance sheet, profit & loss account, directors’ report, and auditor’s report (if applicable)
🚫 Abridged accounts will no longer be accepted

Most software is already available – don’t leave it too late!

👩‍💼 Whether you file yourself or use an agent, you’ll need suitable software in place.

💬 Need help or don’t currently have an accountant?
We’re here to guide you through the changes – just send us a message! 📲📩

🍓🥪 The M&S Strawberry Sandwich: The New Jaffa Cake? 🧁💼

Marks & Spencer just dropped a wild one: a strawberry and cream sandwich. Think soft white bread, whipped cream, fresh strawberries. But while people argue whether it’s tasty or terrifying, we’re asking the real question: What’s the VAT treatment? 🤓

This feels like the 2025 sequel to the legendary Jaffa Cake case. Remember that?

🧠 McVitie’s argued Jaffa Cakes were cakes (zero-rated), not biscuits (some of which are standard-rated). HMRC disagreed.
📚 The court ruled in McVitie’s favour: Jaffa Cakes are cakes, despite being biscuit-sized and chocolate-covered.

So now we ask:

🧾 Is this strawberry sandwich:

A sandwich? (Likely zero-rated)

A dessert? (Still probably zero-rated)

A sweetened, packaged item intended for snacking? (That’s 20% VAT, friends.)

With cream, strawberries, and sponge-like vibes, is this really lunch — or cake in disguise?

📍Tax takeaway: When food doesn’t fit neatly in a box, expect a VAT headache.

Waiting to see how HMRC take a bite out of this one. 🍰👀

Do I need to tell HMRC about my side hustle? 🤔

If you’re selling on Vinted, doing a bit of freelance work, tutoring in the evenings or making money from a hobby - it’s a question you’ve probably asked yourself.

And with the rise in people earning extra income alongside their 9–5, it’s more important than ever to know where you stand with tax.

In our latest article, we break down:
✅ What counts as a side hustle
✅ When you need to register with HMRC
✅ The rules around the £1,000 trading allowance
✅ What to do if you’re already self-employed
✅ How to stay compliant without overcomplicating things

Which VAT scheme should your business be using? 💼

Whether you’re newly VAT registered or wondering if you’re on the right scheme, understanding your options could save you time, hassle, and even money.

Here’s a quick overview of the 4 most common UK VAT schemes:

✅ Standard VAT Scheme – Charge VAT on sales, reclaim it on purchases. Straightforward but admin-heavy and cash flow can be tricky if clients pay late.

✅ Cash Accounting Scheme – Only pay VAT when you’re paid. Helps manage cash flow, especially if customers are slow to settle invoices.

✅ Flat Rate Scheme – Pay a fixed % of your turnover as VAT. Simple and predictable, but you can’t usually reclaim VAT on expenses.

✅ VAT Margin Scheme – Pay VAT only on the profit margin, not the full sale price. Ideal for second-hand goods and resellers.

Each scheme has pros, cons, and eligibility rules - and picking the wrong one can cost you more than you think.

📲 Swipe through the post to learn how they work and who they’re best suited for.
