IS UBS LEAVING SWITZERLAND? HERE’S WHAT THE HEADLINES AREN’T EXPLAINING.

Over the past days, we’ve received questions from clients and business partners:

“Is UBS leaving Switzerland?”

“What will happen to existing UBS clients?”

“Should we reconsider our Swiss banking relationships?”

The concerns are understandable. But the actual UBS announcement tells a more specific story.

On 6 October 2026, UBS announced plans to transfer former Credit Suisse fund administration operations in Switzerland and Luxembourg to Northern Trust.

This is NOT an announcement that UBS is leaving Switzerland or closing ordinary client accounts.

So why is UBS taking this step? And what does it reveal about the future of Swiss banking?

At Alpine Capital, we have prepared an independent analysis covering:

→ What UBS has actually announced.

→ The strategic reasons behind the decision.

→ What could change for affected clients.

→ Three important questions for UBS clients.

→ Three lessons for anyone banking in Switzerland.

Our perspective: The real question is not whether your bank is changing. It’s whether your banking arrangements remain suitable for your future.

Whether you are a private investor, an international entrepreneur or a business owner, understanding your banking structure matters.

Switzerland voted “No” — but not to neutrality.

On 27 September 2026, more than 70% of Swiss voters rejected the proposal to introduce stricter neutrality rules into the Constitution.

So what would a “Yes” actually have changed?

One of the clearest examples is sanctions.

Under the proposed rules, Switzerland would generally have been unable to independently adopt sanctions against a state involved in a war, unless an exception such as a UN mandate applied.

After the “No”, Switzerland remains neutral — but retains its existing flexibility to decide how neutrality is applied in practice.

That distinction matters for international business, sanctions and Switzerland’s cooperation with its international partners.

Is your money safe at UBS?

With UBS back in the headlines, many clients are asking what is actually happening — and whether they should be concerned.

One important fact: the widely discussed USD 33 billion figure is not a reported UBS loss. It relates to additional capital requirements connected with the Credit Suisse acquisition and Switzerland’s current regulatory debate.

For clients, the more practical questions are:

• How much liquidity do I hold with one bank?
• What protection applies to my cash and investments?
• Which legal entity holds my account?
• Should I consider a second banking relationship?

Headlines alone are not a reason to move money. But they can be a good reason to review how your banking structure is set up.

I have summarised the current UBS situation based only on UBS, FINMA and Swiss government sources — without speculation.

If you are considering an alternative to UBS, an additional Swiss bank account or a broader review of your banking setup, Alpine Capital can assist with bank selection, documentation and account-opening coordination.

Swiss corporate tax rates 2026: 8.5% is not the whole story.

Opening a company in Switzerland? Before choosing your address, know these three things:

• The municipality matters—not just the canton. A published figure for “Schwyz” may describe the cantonal capital, not Wollerau.

• The federal 8.5% is not your total tax bill. Cantonal and municipal taxes also apply.

• The 15% minimum tax is not a blanket rate for every Swiss AG or GmbH. It concerns qualifying large multinational groups.

A low percentage catches the eye. Understanding what it actually includes is what helps you plan.

Our Swiss Corporate Tax Guide 2026 brings together local examples, all 26 cantonal-capital benchmarks, calculations in Swiss francs and official sources.

For international founders and advisers comparing Swiss company formation and business locations.

🇨🇭 Own a Swiss company, AG or GmbH?

1 October 2026 comes with a little present.

It is not chocolate. 🍫
It is TranspaReg. 😉

From 1 October 2026, Switzerland introduces new beneficial ownership / UBO reporting obligations for Swiss companies.

⚠️ Important: not every company has the same filing deadline. Certain Commercial Register changes after 1 October can even trigger a one-month filing period.

Not sure what applies to your company?

✓ We check your filing obligation and deadline
✓ Review your beneficial ownership / UBO information
✓ Handle the TranspaReg registration on your behalf

💼 Filing packages:
CHF 250 + VAT — existing Alpine Capital clients
CHF 390 + VAT — new clients

Prefer the “please just take care of it” version of Swiss administration? We can do exactly that.

Switzerland’s new Transparency Register enters into force on 1 October 2026.

For owners of Swiss AGs and GmbHs, foreign shareholders and international entrepreneurs, this is more than a new administrative filing.

The new rules introduce federal reporting of beneficial owners (UBOs) and make consistency between company records, the Commercial Register, ownership structures and bank KYC documentation even more important.

Key points:

• The main UBO threshold is generally 25% of capital or voting rights
• Indirect ownership through foreign holding companies may also need to be traced
• The register will not be public
• New companies will generally have one month to report
• Changes in beneficial ownership must generally be reported within one month
• Existing AGs and GmbHs have different transitional deadlines
• Certain Commercial Register changes may accelerate the reporting obligation

If you own, manage, establish or plan to buy a Swiss company, it is worth reviewing the structure before the new regime starts.

We have published a full practical guide covering Swiss Transparency Register 2026, UBO rules, AG and GmbH requirements, foreign ownership, EasyGov, banking, KYC, deadlines and official Swiss sources.

Can foreigners buy commercial real estate in Switzerland?

For many foreign investors and non-Swiss residents, the answer is: yes, in many cases.

Swiss commercial real estate can offer international investors access to a stable jurisdiction, tangible assets and long-term wealth preservation.

But before buying, you should understand:

• Lex Koller rules
• Swiss property acquisition costs
• taxation and financing
• direct ownership vs. Swiss AG or GmbH

🇨🇭 Buying an existing Swiss company (Swiss AG or GmbH) is a popular option for foreign entrepreneurs entering Switzerland — but it requires careful due diligence.

“Why wait for a new Swiss company? Can’t I simply buy an existing AG or GmbH?”

This is one of the most common questions we receive from international entrepreneurs looking to establish a business in Switzerland.

And the idea is understandable.

An existing Swiss company can offer:

✓ Faster market entry
✓ An established legal entity
✓ Existing corporate history
✓ A potentially faster business setup process

But there is one important detail many buyers overlook:

You are not only buying a company.
You are buying its history.

And history can be valuable…

…but it can also contain hidden risks.

Before acquiring an existing Swiss company, experienced investors carefully review:

✓ Previous business activities
✓ Financial history
✓ Tax situation
✓ Possible liabilities
✓ Contracts and obligations
✓ Compliance background

The wrong shortcut can become an expensive mistake.

The right question is not:

❌ “Can I buy a Swiss company quickly?”

The right question is:

✅ “Can I buy the right Swiss company safely?”

At Alpine Capital, we support international entrepreneurs with:

🇨🇭 Swiss company formation
🇨🇭 Existing Swiss AG and GmbH acquisition solutions
🇨🇭 Business setup in Switzerland
🇨🇭 Compliance and strategic structuring

We help clients understand not only how to enter Switzerland — but how to do it correctly.
