How much are you actually paying your financial advisor? If you don’t know the exact number, it’s time to have a talk.
Fees are a critical part of your investment strategy. The goal is to keep them as low as possible. To do that, you need to understand the three main layers of costs:
-Advisor Compensation: This is the salary or commission paid to your advisor for their services.
-Investment Fees: These are management fees built into the products you own, such as stocks, bonds, or mutual funds.
-Administrative Fees: Most institutions charge these to cover account maintenance and tax document preparation.
Some firms bundle everything into one "all-in" number, while others break it down into several smaller line items. Regardless of the format, your advisor should be able to provide a clearly detailed annual summary of every dollar you paid.
