Summer can be unpredictable for small businesses ☀️

For some businesses, June means things start getting busier. For others, summer can bring slower sales, delayed invoices, or shifting cash flow.

That’s why now is a great time to pause and plan ahead!

A few small steps can make a big difference:
✔ Review upcoming expenses
✔ Follow up on unpaid invoices
✔ Build a small financial buffer
✔ Look ahead at your next few months of cash flow

Planning ahead doesn’t just help your business financially, it can also reduce stress and help you feel more prepared for whatever the season brings.

Running a business always has ups and downs. Having a clear picture of your finances can make navigating those changes a whole lot easier.

Yes, it's true, even businesses that are busy and growing can still feel real cash flow pressure.

Rising costs, slower client payments, payroll increases, and unpredictable expenses can create stress fast. Especially when you’re trying to plan ahead and keep everything moving.

Cash flow challenges don’t always mean a business is failing. Sometimes they’re simply a sign that your systems, forecasting, or financial planning need to evolve as your business grows.

That’s why regular financial check-ins matter so much.

Not just during tax season, but all year long.

Having a clearer picture of what’s coming in, what’s going out, and what’s ahead can make decision-making a whole lot less stressful.

Need a little help? That's what we're here for.

GST/HST is one of those things many small business owners don’t think too much about… until payment deadlines start sneaking up.

And honestly, it’s easy to get overwhelmed.

Between running your business, managing cash flow, and keeping up with CRA requirements, quarterly GST/HST payments can quickly become stressful. Especially if you’re not setting money aside consistently throughout the year!

One of the biggest mistakes we see? Accidentally treating collected GST/HST like regular revenue.

A simple system, like moving GST/HST into a separate savings account as payments come in, can make a huge difference and help avoid last-minute surprises.

We recently wrote about practical ways to plan ahead for quarterly GST/HST payments and reduce some of that financial stress.

📋 Incorporated business owners — your T2 deadline is coming up.

If your fiscal year ended December 31, 2025, your corporate tax return is due June 30, 2026.

Getting your T2 filed on time means avoiding late-filing penalties and keeping your CRA account in good standing. And if you're a Canadian-Controlled Private Corporation (CCPC), your tax payment may already be overdue. Most CCPCs had a payment deadline of March 31.

Don't leave it to the last minute. We'll take care of the filing so you can focus on running your business!

⏰ Self-employed? Your filing deadline is June 15 — but don't get too comfortable.

If you owe money to the CRA, that payment was still due April 30. That means interest has been ticking since May 1 for anyone who hasn't paid yet.

The good news? There's still time to get your return filed properly and make sure you're claiming everything you're entitled to, including home office, vehicle expenses, business meals, and more.

🌿 Tax season is winding down, which makes May the perfect time to get your books in order before the mid-year rush hits. Here's a quick checklist for small business owners:
✅ Reconcile your bank and credit card statements
✅ Review outstanding invoices — who still owes you?
✅ Categorize any expenses you've been putting off
✅ Check your GST/HST remittance schedule
✅ Make sure payroll records are up to date
✅ Review your Q1 numbers — are you on track with your goals?

A little housekeeping now saves a lot of stress come fall. And if the books have gotten away from you, that's exactly what we're here for.

⚠️ A friendly but serious reminder for anyone who filed late this year.

If the CRA hit you with a late-filing penalty in any of the last three years (2022, 2023, or 2024), your penalty for your 2025 return doesn't just repeat — it doubles!

That's 10% of your balance owing right off the top, plus 2% for every month it stays unfiled, for up to 20 months. It adds up fast. And CRA interest compounds daily.

If you're in this situation, or worried you might be, don't wait and hope it goes away. The sooner you act, the more options you have.

We've helped plenty of Victoria business owners and individuals get back on track with the CRA, without the panic. Reach out and let's talk through your options. No judgment. Just solutions. ✔️

Two days left! 🗓️🗓️

If you owe taxes and can't pay the full amount, file anyway! Here's why: the CRA's late-filing penalty (5% of what you owe + 1% per month) only kicks in if you both file late AND owe money.

File now, pay what you can, and avoid the penalty. 💡
